Stereo Kicks were an English-Irish boy band who were formed and were the twelfth contestant eliminated on the eleventh series of The X Factor in 2014. Stereo Kicks consisted of; James Graham, Jake Sims, Chris Leonard, Charlie Jones, Casey Johnson, Barclay Beales, Reece Bibby, and Tom Mann. Their debut single "Love Me So" was released on 21 June 2015 and charted at number 31 on the UK Singles Chart. Just a month later, however, having been together under a year, they announced they were disbanding due to their failure to land a record deal.

History

2014: Formation and The X Factor

All eight members of Stereo Kicks originally auditioned as soloists for series 11 of The X Factor in front of judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Mel B, but were all rejected at the bootcamp stage. [1] They were formed by the judges because they felt they were rejects that they could work with. [2] The group first sang together at bootcamp within hours of being put together; they performed a cover of the Snow Patrol song "Run". [3] They received a standing ovation from all four judges with Cowell saying that they were one of the best boybands they had ever had on the show. As a result, they got through straight to the judges' houses stage, mentored by Walsh. [2] At that stage they sang Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors" and later got sent to the live shows. [4] The fans suggested names through the ITV website; they received over 46,000 entries. [5] [6] Stereo Kicks' reception has been very favourable with Cowell saying they were "one of the best [groups] ever [to feature on the show]" and the public comparing them to be "as good as One Direction" [7] and their performance of "Run" reached 1 million views on The X Factor's YouTube channel a week after its upload on 28 September. [8] Initially called the "New Boy Band", they later held a poll on the website to determine a new name and "Stereo Kicks" was chosen. [9]

Stereo Kicks performed Katy Perry's "Roar" in the first week of the live shows. [10] They landed in the sing-off during week two with Chloe Jasmine, but were saved when Walsh, Mel B and Cowell opted to send Jasmine home.[ citation needed ] They were in the sing-off again in week 4 against Lola Saunders. With Walsh and Mel B opting to save them, the result went to deadlock and Saunders was eliminated as the contestant with fewest public votes.[ citation needed ] With the eliminations of Blonde Electra and Overload Generation in week 1 and Only The Young in week 7, Stereo Kicks became Walsh's last remaining act in the competition. In the quarter-final, they were in the bottom two with Lauren Platt. The result went to deadlock, and were eliminated.[ citation needed ]

Performances during the show

2015: Debut single and split

On 20 April 2015, Stereo Kicks announced their debut single "Love Me So". [11] Written by Mann and released on 21 June 2015, [11] it charted at number 31 on the UK Singles Chart [12] and was the number-one physical single the same week. The single also charted in Ireland where it entered and peaked at number 80 on the IRMA Charts.

On 18 July 2015, after just eleven months together, the band announced via their Facebook page that, having failed to land a major record deal, they would be disbanding.[ citation needed ] Their final performance together saw them headlining Thorpe Park's Island Beats event the following week. Barclay Beales

Barclay Beales (born 27 August 1995) is from Devon. [1] He auditioned for the tenth series of The X Factor in 2013 and got eliminated in the Bootcamp stage by Louis Walsh. [14] He used to yodel. [15] He came back for series 11, performing Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" in his Room Audition and Robbie Williams's "Angels" at the Arena. [16]

Chris Leonard

Chris Leonard (born 3 September 1995) is from Meath, Ireland. [1] He also auditioned for the tenth series of The X Factor and got eliminated in the Bootcamp stage by Gary Barlow, but as part of the boyband Out of the Blue; because they forgot their lyrics. [17] He came back for series 11, but as a soloist. None of his auditions were broadcast. [18]

Tom Mann

Tom Mann (born 3 November 1993) is a football coach from Southampton. [1] Like Beales, he also auditioned for the series 10 of The X Factor but was eliminated in the bootcamp stage by Louis Walsh. [14] Mann came back for series 11. He sang an original song at the arena that he wrote the day after Walsh eliminated him, but Simon Cowell stopped him (then getting a good reaction by the audience) and said: "I think if you were ugly you never would have got that reaction", Walsh himself and Cheryl told Cowell to give him a second chance and then Mann performed an acoustic version of the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way" and got three yeses. [19] He was the oldest member of the group. Mann has since worked as a songwriter and producer for other artists.

James Graham

James Graham (born 12 October 1996) [20] [ non-primary source needed ] is from Essex. [1] He performed James Morrison's "You Give Me Something" in his Room Audition, getting a very good reaction from the judges, [21] and Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" at the Arena; Mel B said that his performance was "soulful and sexy.” He won the second season of The Four: Battle for Stardom and was awarded a recording contract with Republic Records. Reece Bibby

Reece Bibby (born 13 August 1998) is from Accrington. [1] He auditioned at the Room with an acoustic rendition of Disclosure's "Latch" and wowed the judges. [23] He went on to become a member of the band, New Hope Club who are signed to Steady Records/Hollywood Records and have had international success. [24]

Jake Sims

Jake Sims (born 26 November 1994) is from Bristol. [1] He sang Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" in his Room Audition, with his little sister present, [25] and Arctic Monkeys' "When the Sun Goes Down" at the Arena. [26]

Casey Johnson

Casey Johnson (1 May 1995) is from London. [1] He performed Olly Murs' "Please Don't Let Me Go" in his room audition [27] In May 2016, Johnson joined the band Union J, but later left in April 2017. [28] He also starred in the E4 series, Stage School .

Charlie Jones

Charlie Jones (20 December 1999) is from Kent. [1] He sang One Direction's "Little Things" in his Room Audition, [29] and the Spice Girls' "Wannabe" at the Arena, stunning the judges and the audience. [30] He is also well known for his viral song on YouTube, "Belieber for Life". [31] He was the youngest member of the band. [1] He became a member of the 5-piece band Over Atlantic, who were active from 2016 to 2018. [32] [ non-primary source needed ]

Fearne Cotton replaced Ben Shephard as presenter on the spin-off show The Xtra Factor. The original judging panel consisted of Simon Cowell, Minogue, Sharon Osbourne and Brian Friedman. Avenue were an English boy band. They participated in the third series of The X Factor in 2006 and initially made it to the final 12, but were banned from participation for having been specifically formed for the competition and having professional representation. They continued to proclaim their innocence.

The X Factor is a British television music competition to find new singing talent. The seventh series started on ITV on 21 August 2010 and ended on 12 December 2010. The series saw the creation of boyband One Direction, five boys who entered the competition as individuals. The winner of the competition was Matt Cardle. Cardle was mentored throughout the show by Dannii Minogue. After the victory, he released his debut single "When We Collide". A total of 15,448,019 votes were cast throughout the series. It was presented by Dermot O'Leary, with spin-off show The Xtra Factor presented by Konnie Huq on ITV2, who took over from Holly Willoughby.

Series 5 winner Alexandra Burke served as a guest judge for week 4 of the live shows due to Rowland having a throat infection.

Union J are an English pop group, consisting of members JJ Hamblett, Jaymi Hensley, George Shelley and Josh Cuthbert. Shelley left the group in 2016 and was replaced by Casey Johnson, who left several months later, Cuthbert left the group in 2018 leaving the band as duo until they disbanded in 2019. The band formed in 2011, originally as a trio known as Triple J, consisting of Cuthbert, Hamblett and Hensley. They auditioned for the ninth series of the British television music competition The X Factor where they met Shelley who joined the band at the judges' request. They were the tenth contestant eliminated and were subsequently signed to Sony Music subsidiary RCA Records. Their debut single "Carry You" was released in June 2013. Their self-titled debut studio album followed in October 2013 and peaked at number 6 on the UK Albums Chart.

Kingsland Road were an English rock and roll-style and urban-inspired funk and disco boy band formed in 2012. The band is made up of Matt Cahill, Joe "Connor" Conaboy, JJ Thompson and Josh Zaré. Originally a five-piece that included Jay Scott, they were the fourth contestant eliminated on the tenth series of The X Factor in 2013.

Rough Copy were a British boy band from Croydon, London. The group consists of Kazeem Ajobo, Sterling Ramsey and Joseph James Thomas. They were the ninth contestant eliminated on the tenth series of The X Factor in 2013. They originally auditioned for the ninth series in 2012 and got to the "judges' houses" stage, but were forced to back out as Nigerian-born Ajobo was unable to obtain a visa in time, which would have made it almost impossible for him to re-enter the UK.

The judges were Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, who returned for their respective ninth and fifth series as judges, series 9 guest judge and former The Voice UK coach Rita Ora, and BBC Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw, with Grimshaw and Ora replacing Louis Walsh, the only judge who had been on the show from its inception in 2004, and Mel B. Rochelle Humes and Melvin Odoom presented The Xtra Factor, replacing Sarah-Jane Crawford. Louisa Johnson was announced as the winner on 13 December 2015, making Ora the winning mentor.

Andrea Faustini is an Italian singer. He is best known for his role as a contestant on the eleventh series of The X Factor in 2014. In 2015, Faustini released his debut studio album, Kelly, which peaked at number 14 on the UK Albums Chart.

James Graham is a British singer from Chelmsford in Essex. In 2018, Graham participated and emerged as the winner of the second season of the Fox’s The Four: Battle for Stardom.

Matt Edmondson and Rylan Clark-Neal replaced Rochelle Humes and Melvin Odoom as hosts of The Xtra Factor, which was rebranded as The Xtra Factor Live and was broadcast live twice every week, with Roman Kemp making appearances as a digital presenter and social media reporter. Matt Terry was announced the winner on 11 December 2016, making Scherzinger the winning mentor for the second time. Saara Aalto finished second.
