The contributing sites include the I.O.O.F. community cemetery, founded in 1872, and the former Victoria Park. Notable buildings include the Shawmont Railroad Station (1834), Miquon Station designed by Frank Furness (1910), Riverside Paper Mills, Hagy's Mill ruin, St. Mary's Church, and "Fairview" and other buildings on the grounds of the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education. The Roxborough Pumping Station was also part of the district, but it was demolished in 2011 after sitting abandoned for over fifty years.
Anthracite Bank Building, also known as The Beard Building, is a historic former bank building located at Tamaqua, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1850, and is a three-story, three bay wide, brick building in the Italianate style. The first floor exterior is white marble. It housed Tamaqua's first financial institution until 1865. It later served as home of Civil War hero Col. Henry L. Cake and wife Eliza. Cake commanded the 96th PA Volunteer Infantry, rose to the rank of brigadier general, and later served as a member of the fortieth and forty-first U.S. Congress. For several years beginning in 2002, the building served as the Anthracite Inn Bed & Breakfast operated by owner Donald Serfass.

Bordered roughly by Tomb Street, Avenue A, 8th Street, and Harvard Avenue, it encompasses 1,262 contributing buildings, seven contributing structures, and four contributing sites, as well as 475 noncontributing buildings and 13 noncontributing sites where previously demolished resources had been located. Usage functions range from commercial and industrial to institutional to residential in nature. This district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 19, 2018 in recognition of its significance in community planning and development.
