In 2010, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to cinema. In the same year, he was also conferred an honorary Doctorate by the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, located in Kerala, India.
