Veolia Transport Nederland was one of the two Transdev operations in the Netherlands operating bus, train and ferry services. It was a subsidiary of Transdev Netherlands. It ceased in December 2016 with the remaining operations rebranded as Connexxion, also another subsidiary of Transdev Netherlands.
CGEA Transport commenced operating in the Netherlands in 1997 when it purchased a 70% shareholding in train company Lovers Rail that operated the Kennemerstrand Express from Amsterdam to IJmuiden and the Keukenhof Express from Amsterdam to Lisse for the Keukenhof between March and May. In May 1998 it began operating the Spaarne Express from Amsterdam to Haarlem. All of these ceased in 1999.
Veolia Transport Nederland then bought bus companies BBA, Limex and Stadsbus Maastricht. It continued to use the existing brand names for a while. Subsidiary Veolia Cargo Nederland BV operated freight trains on various routes. It was sold in 2009 to SNCF Geodis. [1] [2]
In 2012 it operated city and regional bus transport, the ferry service between the Vlissingen and Breskens and train services in Limburg between Maastricht and Kerkrade, and Roermond and Nijmegen. [3] [4]
After the March 2011 merger of Veolia Transport and Transdev, Veolia Transport Nederland and Connexxion were brought under common ownership after approval was granted by the Netherlands Competition Authority. [5] [6] Both continued to operate independently until June 2015 when both were brought under common management of Transdev Netherlands. [7] When the Limburg concession expired on 11 December 2016, the remaining Haaglanden operations were rebranded as Connexxion. [8] [9]

Nederlandse Spoorwegen is the principal passenger railway operator in the Netherlands. It is a Dutch state-owned company founded in 1938. The Dutch rail network is the busiest in the European Union, and the third busiest in the world after Switzerland and Japan.
Veolia Transport was the international transport services division of the French-based multinational company Veolia until the 2011 merger that gave rise to Veolia Transdev, later renamed Transdev. Veolia Transport traded under the brand names of Veolia Transportation in North America and Israel, Veolia Transport, Veolia Verkehr in Germany and with the former name Connex preserved in Lebanon, Melbourne and Jersey.

Transdev was an international public transport group based in Issy-les-Moulineaux near Paris, France, and operating in several countries. Originally created as Société centrale pour l'équipement du territoire in 1955 and developing transportation activities since 1973, Transdev was a subsidiary Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, a French state-owned financial institution. On 3 March 2011, the group merged with Veolia Transport, one of its main competitors, into Veolia Transdev. During 2013, Veolia Transdev was renamed Transdev, recognising the planned withdrawal of Veolia Environnement from ownership of the group.

The national tariff system is a ticketing and zoning scheme for local public transport in the Netherlands. It was designed as a nationwide scheme but is being phased out and replaced by the OV-chipkaart. With the abolition of the strippenkaart on 3 November 2011, only the sterabonnement remains organized under the national tariff system. The system does not apply to Dutch Railways (NS), which have their own pricing regime; however, there are limited sections of railway on which the system is valid.

Amsterdam Amstel is a railway station in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The station opened in 1939. It is located to the southeast of Amsterdam Centraal in the borough of Amsterdam-Oost, near the Amstel river. Amsterdam Amstel is used daily by 50,000 train and metro passengers. Rail services at the station are provided by NS, the principal railway operator in the Netherlands. Metro, tram and city bus services are provided by municipal operator GVB. Regional buses are operated by Transdev and Keolis.

TransdevTSL, formerly MetroLink, was a 50/50 joint venture between the old Transdev and Transfield Services that operated trams in Melbourne, ferries in Brisbane and buses in Sydney. The joint venture was dissolved in December 2010 when Transfield Services sold its shares to Transdev. These three operations were the old Transdev's only Australian operations. Two of them would later be taken over by Veolia Transdev, formed from the merger of old Transdev and Veolia Transport in March 2011.

The main public transport in the Netherlands for longer distances is by train. Long-distance buses are limited to a few missing railway connections. Regional and local public transport is by bus, and in some cities by metro and tram. There are also ferries.
