Ward 5 is a municipal ward located in the northeast corner of the city of Mississauga, Ontario. It includes Malton and Britannia Woods, as well as extensive industrial area. Carolyn Parrish was the latest councillor that represented the ward's seat on Mississauga City Council and Peel Regional Council since her election in 2014. She resigned on March 15, 2024 in order to run for mayor in the 2024 Mississauga mayoral by-election.
The ward contains the communities of Malton, and the part of Hurontario (the community of Britannia) north of Eglinton Avenue.
Toronto Pearson International Airport is located within the ward.
According to the 2006 Canadian census, the total population of the ward was 75,415.
The largest ethnic group in the ward is South Asians who make up 39.3% of the population (primarily East Indians). 28% of the population is White, 11.4% Black, 6.2% Chinese, 3.3% Filipino, 3.3% Southeast Asian, 1.8% Latin American, and 1.7% Arab. The ward has the highest percentage of visible minorities in the city.
English is the largest mother tongue in the ward, with 40.4% of the ward speaking it as their native language. Punjabi is spoken by 16.5% of the ward.
The median individual income of the ward is $23,141.

Two-time councillor Cliff Gyles was defeated in the election by Eve Adams; the incumbent placed a distant sixth. The election was held on November 10, roughly two months after Gyles was sentenced to 2.5 years in a federal penitentiary for accepting $35,000 in bribes. [14]

Mississauga, historically known as Toronto Township, is a Canadian city in the province of Ontario, situated on the western shore of Lake Ontario in the Regional Municipality of Peel, adjoining the western border of Toronto. With a population of 717,961 as of 2021, Mississauga is the seventh-most populous municipality in Canada, third-most in Ontario, and second-most in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) after Toronto itself. However, for the first time in its history, the city's population declined according to the 2021 census, from a 2016 population of 721,599 to 717,961, a 0.5 per cent decrease.
Carolyn Parrish is a politician in Ontario, Canada. She was a member of the House of Commons from 1993 to 2006 representing ridings in Mississauga, Ontario; initially as a Liberal Party MP, and then as an independent MP from 2004 to 2006 following her removal from the party. She became a city councillor for Mississauga City Council in 2006, and remained there until 2010, when she was defeated by Ron Starr. After a brief retirement from politics, Parrish contested and won the position of Councillor for Ward 5 in the 2014 municipal election. She resigned on March 15, 2024 to contest in the 2024 Mississauga mayoral by-election.

Hazel McCallion was a Canadian politician who served as the fifth mayor of Mississauga. First elected in November 1978, McCallion was mayor for 36 years until her retirement in 2014, making her the longest-serving mayor in the city's history. She was a successful candidate in twelve municipal elections, having been acclaimed twice and re-elected ten times. She was nicknamed "Hurricane Hazel" for her outspoken political style with reference to the hurricane of 1954, which had a considerable impact. When the 1979 Mississauga train derailment occurred early in her tenure, she helped oversee evacuation of 200,000 residents from the resulting explosion, fire, and spill of hazardous chemicals.

Eve Adams is a Canadian politician who served as the Member of Parliament for the federal electoral district of Mississauga—Brampton South from 2011 to 2015. She was elected as a member of the Conservative Party of Canada but, on February 9, 2015, she announced she was resigning as a parliamentary secretary and crossed the floor to join the Liberal Party. Previously, Damerla was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario representing the riding of Mississauga East—Cooksville from 2011 to 2018. She served as Minister of Seniors Affairs in the Cabinet of Premier Kathleen Wynne. On March 7th, 2024, Dipika Announced that she would be seeking the Mayorship of Mississauga.
