Mississauga City Council is the governing body of the city of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The council consists of the mayor and 11 councillors elected to serve a four-year term. The last municipal election was held October 24, 2022. A mayoral by-election will be held on June 10, 2024 with the next general elections to be held in 2026. All members of council, including the mayor, are also simultaneously members of the Peel Regional Council.

Carolyn Parrish is a politician in Ontario, Canada. She was a member of the House of Commons from 1993 to 2006 representing ridings in Mississauga, Ontario; initially as a Liberal Party MP, and then as an independent MP from 2004 to 2006 following her removal from the party. She became a city councillor for Mississauga City Council in 2006, and remained there until 2010, when she was defeated by Ron Starr. After a brief retirement from politics, Parrish contested and won the position of Councillor for Ward 5 in the 2014 municipal election. She resigned on March 15, 2024 to contest in the 2024 Mississauga mayoral by-election.

Michael Douglas Ford is a Canadian politician who has been the Ontario minister of citizenship and multiculturalism since June 24, 2022. A member of the Progressive Conservative (PC) Party, he has represented York South—Weston in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 2022. Ford previously served on Toronto City Council from 2016 to 2022. First elected as a school trustee in 2014, he later won a 2016 by-election for the council seat which was vacated upon the death of Councillor Rob Ford, before he was elected as a member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) in 2022. He is the nephew of Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario and Rob Ford, the former mayor of Toronto.

The 2022 Toronto municipal election was held on October 24, 2022, to elect the mayor and 25 city councillors in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In addition, school trustees were elected to the Toronto District School Board, Toronto Catholic District School Board, Conseil scolaire Viamonde and Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir. The election was held in conjunction with those held in other municipalities in the province of Ontario.

By-elections to the 44th Canadian Parliament may be held to fill vacancies in the House of Commons of Canada between the 2021 federal election and the 45th federal election. The 44th Canadian Parliament has existed since 2021 with the membership of its House of Commons having been determined by the results of the 44th Canadian federal election held on September 20, 2021. The Liberal Party of Canada has a minority government during this Parliament, supported by the New Democratic Party in a confidence-and-supply agreement. The Conservative Party of Canada forms the Official Opposition.

The 2024 Mississauga mayoral by-election will be held on June 10, 2024 to elect the 7th mayor of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada to serve the remainder of the 2022-2026 term following the resignation of mayor Bonnie Crombie. Her seat was declared vacant at the January 17th council meeting. As of March 15, there are twelve candidates.
