We TV (stylized as WE tv) is an American pay television channel. Owned by AMC Networks since its September 1997 launch, it is oriented mainly towards lifestyle and entertainment programming.
As of November 2023 [update] , We TV is available to approximately 64,000,000 pay television households in the United States-down from its 2017 peak of 87,000,000 households. [1]
We TV was originally known as Romance Classics when it launched on September 1, 1997 under the ownership of what was then the Cablevision Systems Corporation-controlled Rainbow Media. It was originally a movie channel focusing mostly on romantic dramas and comedies, and television miniseries; similar to the original format of AMC (as American Movie Classics), the channel initially broadcast its films commercial-free. On January 1, 2001, the network space was relaunched as WE: Women's Entertainment, taking on an ad-supported general entertainment format. In 2006, the channel was renamed WE tv. [3] The channel aired the first three seasons of the popular Logie Award-winning Australian television series McLeod's Daughters , but dropped the show in April 2006.[ citation needed ] The channel's format then shifted towards reality shows, with several having topics related to weddings (such as Bridezillas , Big Easy Brides and My Fair Wedding with David Tutera ). [4] Other popular shows on the included Secret Lives of Women , The Locator and Amazing Cakes. In 2009, Rainbow launched Wedding Central, a sister channel to WE tv. The channel closed on July 1, 2011.
In January 2011, We TV confirmed that it had signed Toni Braxton for a reality series, entitled Braxton Family Values , which is marketed as one of the flagship shows. To prepare for a new show lineup, We TV also gave the AMC a new logo and marketing tagline: "Life As WE Know It". [5] In March 2012, We TV confirmed that the AMC had ordered 14 episodes of Kendra on Top , a reality show following the lives of Kendra Wilkinson and Hank Baskett, who previously appeared in the E! reality series Kendra . Kendra said the show focuses on "motherhood, parenthood, and wife hood". [6] Kendra On Top premiered on June 5, 2012. [7]
In June 2014, AMC unveiled a new logo, dropping the "Women's Entertainment" tagline, along with the full capitalization of WE in its branding, becoming more of a brand in the "royal we" sense. AMC president Marc Juris explained that while the AMC was to remain "a leading destination for women on television and online", the goal of the new branding was to broaden the focus on the word "we" as representing shared experiences, describing it as "a powerful and universal theme which drives connection, conversation, collaboration and community". [8] As part of the rebranding, AMC also announced its first original scripted series, The Divide , which was originally pitched for sister AMC, and was canceled after its first season. [9] [10] Its second series, South of Hell , was ordered, but burned off in one day on 2015's Black Friday after a change in the network's management back towards exclusively original reality programming.
Bravo is an American basic cable television network, launched on December 8, 1980. It is owned by the NBCUniversal Media Group division of Comcast's NBCUniversal. The channel originally focused on programming related to fine arts and film. Since the 2000s, its brand has focused heavily on reality series targeted at 25-to-54-year-old women and the LGBTQIA+ community at large.

Wedding Central was a short-lived American digital cable television channel that focused on programming involving brides and weddings, which was a spin-off of the programming which made up much of WE tv's schedule at the network's launch on August 18, 2009. The network was launched by the Rainbow Media subsidiary of Cablevision. Much of the network's programming was taken from previously aired WE tv wedding programming and wedding-related motion pictures, with little new content offered outside of promotions and on-screen quizzes. Also offered solely on Cablevision systems was interactive television components such as quizzes, polls, voting, and advertising opportunities for national and local wedding retailers.

David Tutera's Celebrations is an American reality television series on WE tv starring David Tutera, a wedding planner for celebrities. In the show, women send videos to Tutera asking for help planning their events. After selecting the woman, he goes to help them, and puts his own touch to the plans, creating a "dream event" for each woman. He makes his alterations with just three weeks before each woman's event.

Kendra on Top is an American reality television series on WE tv that debuted June 5, 2012. The series follows the day-to-day life of former Playboy model and The Girls Next Door reality television personality Kendra Baskett as she balances motherhood and her business ventures. Season 2 chronicles Wilkinson as she prepares and participates as a celebrity contestant on Splash and stars on Celebrity Wife Swap. The series also documents the activities of her husband, Hank Baskett, as he works on his transition from NFL football player to businessman. Kendra's car accident that occurred in April 2013 is also included.
L.A. Hair is an American reality television series on WE tv. The series debuted on May 31, 2012 and was originally titled Hair Divas: Hollywood. The series follows celebrity stylist Kim Kimble and her staff at her salon, Kimble Hair Studio. WE tv announced in October 2012 that the series had been renewed for a ten episode second season, which debuted on June 6, 2013. WE tv has ordered a 12-episode third season that premiered on May 22, 2014. On March 3, 2015 WE tv renewed the show for a fourth season that premiered in July 2015. The fifth season of L.A. Hair premiered on January 5, 2017.
Marriage Boot Camp is an American reality television series which debuted on May 31, 2013, on WE tv. It is a spin-off of Bridezillas and is based on the Marriage Boot Camp non-profit seminar created by Jim Carroll in 1994. It was announced on August 1, 2013, that the series had been renewed for a ten-episode second season. Production began in late 2013. Season 2 dropped Bridezillas from the title, and premiered on March 7, 2014.

Prior to 2000, the category was referred to as Special Class Program and both series and specials competed in the same category. A separate category for singular specials was created in 2000.
Shannen Says is an eight-episode American reality television series broadcast on WE TV from April 10 to May 13, 2012. The show focuses on the preparations for the 2011 wedding of actress Shannen Doherty and photographer Kurt Iswarienko, with help from celebrity-wedding planner David Tutera. Doherty and Iswarienko developed the show as a way to document the stress on a couple while planning their wedding.
