CBS Reality is a European free-to-air television channel broadcast in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

History

CBS Reality was launched as Reality TV on 1 December 1999 as a joint-venture between UPCtv and Zone Vision. [7] The channel started broadcasting to Africa on 1 November 2001. [8] In 2005, Liberty Global, owner of UPC, bought Zone Vision. In 2006, they decided to put all their channels under the unified "Zone" brand. Reality TV became Zone Reality. [9]

On 1 August 2012, Chellomedia revealed that the European version of Zone Reality would be rebranded into CBS Reality. [10] In Europe, Zone Reality was rebranded on 3 December 2012. [11] AMC Networks acquired Chellomedia on 2 February 2014. Chellomedia was rebranded as AMC Networks International on 8 July 2014. [12]

CBS Reality is available in HD in Poland since 23 September 2019. [13]

A dedicated Romanian feed was launched on 13 May 2022, with a different schedule and Romanian adverts. However, promos and trailers are subtitled in Romanian.

CBS Reality closed on June 1, 2022 in Russia. [14] [15]

CBS Reality closed in the UK on 22 November 2023 and was rebranded as True Crime. [16]

CBS Reality closed on December 31, 2023 in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and in the Netherlands.

CBS Reality closed on January 3, 2024 in Hungary, Bulgaria and Croatia.

Television in Romania started in August 1955. State television started to broadcast on 31 December 1956. The second television channel followed in 1968, but between 1985 and 1990, there was only one Romanian channel before the return of the second channel. Private broadcasters arrived in December 1991, with SOTI which was the first private nationwide television station in Central and Eastern Europe. Romania has the highest penetration rates for pay television in the world, with over 98% of all households watching television through cable or satellite.

True Crime Xtra is a British free-to-air television channel that centres its programming on American television shows produced by CBS. It is the sister channel of CBS Reality and is owned in partnership by AMC Networks and Paramount Networks.

CBS Justice was a British free-to-air television channel specialising in action film, drama and murder-mysteries programs. It launched in the UK and Ireland on 16 November 2009 and later expanded to Africa in 2019. It closed on all platforms in the UK on 30 June 2022.

MGM Channel, sometimes called just MGM and in Spain Canal MGM, was a European 24-hour film channel that was launched by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios in Germany in 2001, later followed by other European countries. The programming of the channel mainly consisted of movies from MGM's library comprising approximately 4,000 titles, including West Side Story, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Madhouse, The Manchurian Candidate, 12 Angry Men, amongst many others. The main language was in English and the films were locally subtitled or dubbed. Some cable operators did offer MGM video on demand.

True Crime is a British free-to-air television channel.
