As of the census [4] of 2000, there were 342 people, 144 households, and 86 families residing in the village. The population density was 402.9 inhabitants per square mile (155.6/km2). There were 163 housing units at an average density of 192.0 per square mile (74.1/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 88.60% White, 9.36% African American, 0.58% Native American, and 1.46% from two or more races.
There were 144 households, out of which 27.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.0% were married couples living together, 16.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.6% were non-families. 34.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 3.15.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 24.9% under the age of 18, 12.0% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 years of age or older.
