On March 23, 2024, Normani announced on X (formerly Twitter) that her single "1:59", featuring American rapper Gunna, would serve as the second single from her debut solo album Dopamine (2024). The song was written by Tyla, Mocha, Believve, Gunna, Skillibeng, and its producer Sammy SoSo. Musically, "Jump" is a genre fusion of Afrobeats, dancehall and hip hop. It features throbbing bass, amapiano percussion, and a chant of the Zulu language expression "haibo".
