Recognition of Kosovo

The IOC approved Kosovo's inclusion as a full member of the Committee, allowed the country to participate in Rio 2016 under its national flag. The IOC code for Kosovo Olympic Team is KOS.

Ice stock sport

Icestock sport is a winter sport, somewhat similar to curling. In German, it is known as Eisstockschießen. Competitors slide ice stocks over an ice surface, aiming for a target, or to cover the longest distance. Icestocks have a gliding surface, to which a stick is attached. 117th IOC Session 117th International Olympic Committee Session held in Singapore from 2 to 9 July 2005

The 117th International Olympic Committee Session was held for the first time in Singapore from 2 to 9 July 2005. Two important decisions were made through voting during the session – namely the selection of the hosting city for the 2012 Summer Olympics, and a review of the 28 sports currently represented in the summer games.

Bids for the 2014 Winter Olympics Olympic selection process

Seven applicant cities presented bids to host the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The IOC Executive Board shortlisted three cities—Sochi, Russia; Salzburg, Austria; and Pyeongchang, South Korea—with Sochi winning the IOC's July 2007 final vote.

2024 Summer Olympics Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, to be held in Paris, France

The 2024 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad and also known as Paris 2024, is an upcoming international multi-sport event scheduled to take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024 in Paris, France. Having previously hosted in 1900 and 1924, Paris will become the second city to host the Summer Olympics three times after London. The Games will mark the centenary of the Paris Games of 1924, and the sixth Olympic Games hosted by France.

The 123rd International Olympic Committee Session was held in July 2011 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban, South Africa. At the session, Pyeongchang, South Korea was announced as the host city of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games.

Olympic Committee of Kosovo National Olympic Committee

The Olympic Committee of Kosovo is the National Olympic Committee representing Kosovo. Officially established in 1992, the OCK became a full member of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Movement on 9 December 2014. It is responsible for Kosovo's participation at the Olympic Games.

Kosovo made its Olympic debut as a member state in 2016. Its team is organized by the Olympic Committee of Kosovo (OCK), created in 1992 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee on 9 December 2014. It won its first medal in its debut appearance in 2016, when judoka Majlinda Kelmendi took gold in the women's -52kg category. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Nora Gjakova won gold in the women's judo -57kg class, and Distria Krasniqi won gold in the women's judo -48kg class.

Kosovo was a part of several international sports federations in the 1990s, and has applied to become a member of many more after its 2008 declaration of independence from Serbia.

Thomas Bach German fencer and sports official, president of the IOC

Thomas Bach is a German lawyer, former Olympic fencer and Olympic Gold Medalist who serves as the ninth and current president of the International Olympic Committee. He replaced Jacque Rogge on September 10, 2013 for less than 8 years until his death from Parkinson’s disease. He is also a former member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation executive board. Bach is the first ever Olympic Champion to be elected President of the IOC.

121st IOC Session

The 121st International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session was held on October 1–9, 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark, during which Rio de Janeiro was selected as the host city of the 2016 Summer Olympics. The city of Copenhagen was chosen on February 8, 2006 by the 118th IOC Session held in Turin, Italy to stage the 13th Olympic Congress, together with the meetings of the Executive Board and the 121st IOC Session. The other candidates were Athens (Greece), Busan, Cairo (Egypt), Riga (Latvia), Singapore (Singapore), Taipei. Convened on the initiative of President Jacques Rogge, the 13th Olympic Congress brought together all the constituent parties of the Olympic Movement to study and discuss the current functioning of the Movement and define the main development axes for the future.

13th Olympic Congress

The 13th Olympic Congress was held between 3–5 October 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark, by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was held together with the meetings of the Executive Board and the 121st IOC Session.

International Committee of Mediterranean Games

The International Committee of Mediterranean Games is the organization of the National Olympic Committees who presides, regulates and organizes the Mediterranean Games. It is based in sport complex OACA in Athens.

128th IOC Session

The 128th IOC Session took place from July 30 – August 3, 2015, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics and the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics were elected during the 128th IOC Session on July 31, 2015.

Kosovo participated at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 5 to 21 August 2016. It was represented by the Olympic Committee of Kosovo (KOK/OKK) with a delegation of eight people, including three men and five women. Most of them were awarded places in their respective sporting events through wild card entries and Tripartite Commission invitations. Two Kosovar athletes, on the other hand, qualified directly for the Olympics on merit: judoka Nora Gjakova and Majlinda Kelmendi, the lone returning Olympian on the team after representing Albania four years earlier in London. The world's top-ranked judoka in her weight category and the frontrunner for the country's first Olympic medal, Kelmendi was selected to become Kosovo's flag bearer in the opening ceremony.

2032 Summer Olympics Games of the XXXV Olympiad, to be held in Queensland, Australia

The 2032 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXV Olympiad and also known as Brisbane 2032, will be an international multi-sport event scheduled to take place from 23 July to 8 August 2032, in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

The 2030 Summer Youth Olympics, officially known as the V Summer Youth Olympic Games will be the fifth edition of the Summer Youth Olympics, an international sports, education and cultural festival for teenagers, in a city designated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Kosovo at the 2020 Summer Olympics Kosovo at the games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo

Kosovo (KOS) competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, represented by the Olympic Committee of Kosovo (KOK/OKK). The nation had previously participated in the Summer Olympic Games on one occasion in 2016. A total of 11 athletes, five men and six women, were selected by the national committee to compete in six sports. Initially scheduled to take place during the summer of 2020, the games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021 in relation to the pandemic of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

2026 Summer Youth Olympics 2026 edition of the Summer Youth Olympics

The 2026 Summer Youth Olympics, officially known as the IV Summer Youth Olympic Games and commonly known as Dakar 2026, will be the fourth edition of the Summer Youth Olympics, an international sports, education and cultural festival for teenagers, in a city designated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was originally planned to be held in Dakar, Senegal for 18 days from 22 October to 9 November 2022, becoming the first IOC event to be held in Africa and the first in a Muslim-majority country. However, on 17 July 2020, the IOC and Senegal agreed to postpone the games to 2026 due to the operational and economical consequences of the postponement of the 2020 Summer Olympics to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
