Rome Film Festival

The 17th Rome Film Festival took place from 13 to 23 October 2022 in the Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome. It became a competitive festival from 2022. [1] The festival programme was unveiled by Paola Malanga, the festival's new artistic director, on 22 September 2022. [2] It opened with The Hummingbird by Francesca Archibugi, preceded by short film Luciano Pavarotti, la stella by Gianluigi Toccafondo. [3] [4]

The official image of the event was dedicated to Joanne Woodward American retired actress, and her late husband Paul Newman, American actor, film director, race car driver, philanthropist, and entrepreneur, as tribute to legends. [5]

The award ceremony took place on 22 October at the Auditorium Parco della Musica. Progressive Cinema Competition Award for Best Film was awarded to January, a coming-of-age story in the backdrop of Latvian independence by Viestur Kairish, a Latvian opera, movie and theatre director. The festival closed on 28 October with Forever Young , a French-Italian comedy-drama film by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi. [6] James Ivory, an American film director, producer, and screenwriter, was honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award. [7]

The 19th Rome Film Festival opened on 16 October in the Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome with the Italian biographical drama film The Great Ambition by Andrea Segre. Earlier the pre-opening film of the festival, Megalopolis, an American epic science fiction drama directed by Francis Ford Coppola, was screened on 14 October 2024, at the Cinecittà film studios. The event was streamed live to the Auditorium Parco della Musica's Sala Petrassi. Coppola was honoured at the screening and introduced the film in the presence of his granddaughter, Gia Coppola. Lino Guanciale an Italian actor hosted the opening ceremony. Viggo Mortensen and Johnny Depp were honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Awards. In the festival, an international competition featuring 18 titles hailing from 29 countries were presented.

The 18th Rome Film Festival took place from 18 to 29 October 2023 in the Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome. The festival programme was unveiled by Gian Luca Farinelli, the chair of the Rome Cinema Foundation on 22 September 2023. It opened with There's Still Tomorrow the directorial debut film of Italian actress, screenwriter Paola Cortellesi.
