The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) was one of the first collegiate athletic conferences in the United States. Twenty-seven of the current Division I FBS football programs were members of this conference at some point, as were at least 19 other schools. Every member of the current Southeastern Conference except Arkansas and Missouri, as well as six of the 15 current members of the Atlantic Coast Conference plus future SEC member University of Texas at Austin, currently of the Big 12 Conference, formerly held membership in the SIAA.

The team played its home games in Nashville, Tennessee.
The 1954 Eastern Kentucky Maroons football team was an American football team that represented Eastern Kentucky State College—now known as Eastern Kentucky University–as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) during the 1954 college football season. Led by first-year head coach Glenn Presnell, the Maroons compiled an overall record of 8–1–1 with a mark of 5–0 in conference play, winning the OVC title. Eastern Kentucky was invited to the Tangerine Bowl, where the Maroons lost to Omaha.

In their tenth and final season under head coach Rome Rankin, the Maroons compiled a 5–4 record, won the KIAC championship, and outscored opponents by a total of 112 to 88.
