The 1895 West Dorset by-election was held on 14 May 1895 after the death of the incumbent Conservative MP Henry Richard Farquharson. The seat was retained by the Conservative candidate Robert Williams.

The elections were delayed from the usual date of the first Thursday in May due to the 2001 foot and mouth crisis and were held on the same day as the 2001 general election.

Christopher Lionel John Loder is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for West Dorset since the 2019 general election. A member of the Conservative Party, he succeeded Sir Oliver Letwin, who was first elected as a Conservative in 1997 but sat as an independent after having the whip removed in September 2019 and did not stand for reelection. The West Dorset constituency can be considered a safe seat, having only ever elected Conservative MPs.
