The Copa del Rey 1916 was the 16th staging of the Copa del Rey, the Spanish football cup competition.

The competition started on 26 March 1916, and concluded on 7 May 1916, with the final, held at the Camp de la Indústria in Barcelona, in which Athletic Bilbao lifted the trophy for the 7th time ever with a 4–0 victory over Madrid FC, with a hat-trick from Félix Zubizarreta. It was Athletic's third title in a row, thus gaining the right to keep the trophy. However, this tournament is best known for its El Clásico in the semi-finals which saw Madrid FC and FC Barcelona go head-to-head for the first time in 14 years in the competition's history, and the two sides were only separated after four thrilling matches including a dramatic 6–6 draw with extra-time and hat-tricks from the likes of Bernabéu and Alcántara. The 1916 Copa del Rey Final was the 16th final of the Spanish cup competition, the Copa del Rey. The final was played at Camp de la Indústria in Barcelona on 7 May 1916. The match was won by Athletic Bilbao, who beat Madrid FC 4–0. The star of the match was Félix Zubizarreta, who scored a hat-trick to help Bilbao to a 4-0 win. He become only the second player to score a hat-trick in the final after teammate Pichichi, who had done it in the previous final against Espanyol.

The 1917 Copa del Rey Final was the 17th final of the Spanish cup competition, the Copa del Rey. The final was played at Camp de la Indústria in Barcelona on 13 May 1917. The match ended without goals after twenty minutes of extra-time. The replay match was played two days later, in the same venue with the same referee. The match ended 1–1, and the teams decided to play twenty minutes of extra time. Neither team scored a goal in that time, so they decided to play another twenty minutes of extra time. Three minutes in the second period of extra time, Ricardo Álvarez scored for Madrid FC, thus sealing the fifth title for Madrid.

Alfonso Albéniz Jordana was a Spanish footballer and referee, as well as a renowned chemical engineer, lecturer and later a diplomat. He is best known for being the first-ever player to play for both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, which he achieved when he moved out from Catalonia to the capital for study purposes.

Luis Bru Masipó, born Lluís, was a Spanish footballer who played as a goalkeeper for FC Barcelona. He was the first goalkeeper in Spain to play "the English style", which consisted of blocking the ball instead of kicking the ball away. He is best known for his heroics in the semifinals of the 1916 Copa del Rey between Barcelona and Madrid FC, in which he saved three penalties in two matches.

In the semifinals of the 1916 Copa del Rey, Real Madrid defeated Barcelona after facing each other four times in just under three weeks and of several highly controversial decisions by the referee José Berraondo, a former Madrid player.
