The Copa del Rey 1917 was the 17th staging of the Copa del Rey, the Spanish football cup competition.

Contents

The competition started on 11 March 1917, and concluded on 15 May 1917, with the final, held at the Camp de la Indústria in Barcelona, in which Madrid FC lifted the trophy for the 5th time ever with a 2–1 victory over Arenas Club de Getxo, thanks to a winner in extra-time from the 19-year-old Ricardo Álvarez.

The 1916 Copa del Rey Final was the 16th final of the Spanish cup competition, the Copa del Rey. The final was played at Camp de la Indústria in Barcelona on 7 May 1916. The match was won by Athletic Bilbao, who beat Madrid FC 4–0. The star of the match was Félix Zubizarreta, who scored a hat-trick to help Bilbao to a 4-0 win. He become only the second player to score a hat-trick in the final after teammate Pichichi, who had done it in the previous final against Espanyol.

The 1917 Copa del Rey Final was the 17th final of the Spanish cup competition, the Copa del Rey. The final was played at Camp de la Indústria in Barcelona on 13 May 1917. The match ended without goals after twenty minutes of extra-time. The replay match was played two days later, in the same venue with the same referee. The match ended 1–1, and the teams decided to play twenty minutes of extra time. Neither team scored a goal in that time, so they decided to play another twenty minutes of extra time. Three minutes in the second period of extra time, Ricardo Álvarez scored for Madrid FC, thus sealing the fifth title for Madrid.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">1919 Copa del Rey final</span> Football match

The 1919 Copa del Rey final was an association football match between Arenas Club de Getxo and FC Barcelona on 18 May 1919 at the Martínez Campos stadium in Madrid. It was the deciding match of the Spanish cup competition, the Copa del Rey. Both teams progressed through a quarterfinal and a semifinal round to reach the final, with Barcelona going undefeated throughout the tournament. The final was attended by a crowd of 8,000 spectators with all tickets having been sold out. With the match tied 2–2 at the end of regular time, Arenas were able to use their superior endurance to win 5–2 in extra time thanks to goals by Florencio Peña and Juan Ibaibarriaga as well as a hat-trick from Félix Sesúmaga. This victory gave Arenas their first and only national cup title.

The 1916–17 season was Madrid Football Club's 15th season in existence. The club played some friendly matches. They also played in the Campeonato Regional Centro and the Copa del Rey, winning both competitions.
