The 1940 Tour de Serbie (Serbian : Trka oko Srbije) was the 2nd edition of the Tour de Serbie cycling stage race. It was scheduled from 29 August to 6 September.
Serbian is the standardized variety of the Serbo-Croatian language mainly used by Serbs. It is the official language of Serbia, the territory of Kosovo, and one of the three official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition, it is a recognized minority language in Montenegro where it is spoken by the relative majority of the population, as well as in Croatia, North Macedonia, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
Tour de Serbie is a road bicycle race held annually in Serbia. First held in 1939, since 2005 it has been ranked 2.2 on the UCI Europe Tour.
The winner of overall classification was Janez Peternel.
Janez Peternel was a Yugoslav cyclist, who rode for Hermes Ljubljana. He won Tour of Serbia in 1940. He died as partisan in World War II.

Ivan Stević is a Serbian professional road bicycle racer, who last rode for the Start–Vaxes Cycling Team. He turned professional in 2005, riding for the Aerospace Engineering-VMG squad, before joining Toyota-United in 2006. In that year, he won the Serbian National Championship.
