Tournament summary

This was the only qualifying school for the American Professional Golfers (APG), a briefly lived breakaway tour that was created by tour golfers who were upset with financial arrangements with the PGA of America. The APG is the direct antecedent for an independent PGA Tour which began shortly thereafter. [1] [2]

The tournament was played over 144 holes at the Doral Country Club in Doral, Florida in mid October. [3] There were 39 players in the field and 21 earned their tour card. [3] [4]

Dutch golfer Martin Roesink was the medallist. Australian Bob Shaw finished in second place. [5]

Robert J. Shaw is an Australian professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1970s.

Robert James Stanton is a retired professional golfer from Australia. He had considerable success in the late 1960s, winning a number of tournaments in Australia and playing on the PGA Tour. As a 20-year-old, he won the 1966 Dunlop International, beating Arnold Palmer in a sudden-death playoff. He never won on the PGA Tour but was runner-up twice, in the 1969 AVCO Golf Classic and the 1970 Florida Citrus Invitational. He had a brief return of form in 1974/1975 and again for a few years from 1982.

Martin Roesink is a Dutch professional golfer. In the mid-1960s he had much success in Australasian region, posting several high finishes culminating with a win at the 1967 New Zealand Wills Masters. The following year he tried out for the PGA Tour and was successful, performing as medallist at the fall Q-School. He played on the PGA Tour for five seasons, recording a number of top tens, including a runner-up finish in 1970. Since then, he has worked primarily as a club professional and golf manager in the American state of Ohio.

This is a list of the 1982 PGA Tour Qualifying School graduates. 50 players earned their 1983 PGA Tour card through Q-School in 1982. The tournament was played over 108 holes at the Tournament Players Club in Ponte Vedra, Florida. The top 30 players split the $50,000 purse, with the winner earning $9,000. This was the first qualifying school during the PGA Tour's the "All-exempt Tour" era. All graduates had full status on the PGA Tour the subsequent year.
