Lima, founded in 1535 as the Ciudad de los Reyes, is the capital and largest city of Peru. It is located in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín Rivers, in the desert zone of the central coastal part of the country, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The city is considered the political, cultural, financial and commercial center of Peru. Due to its geostrategic importance, the Globalization and World Cities Research Network has categorized it as a "beta" tier city. Jurisdictionally, the metropolis extends mainly within the province of Lima and in a smaller portion, to the west, within the Constitutional Province of Callao, where the seaport and the Jorge Chávez Airport are located. Both provinces have regional autonomy since 2002.
The Peru national football team represents Peru in men's international football. The national team has been organised, since 1927, by the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF). The FPF constitutes one of the ten members of FIFA's South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL). Peru has won the Copa América twice, and has qualified for the FIFA World Cup five times ; the team also participated in the 1936 Olympic football competition and has reached the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The team plays most of its home matches at the Estadio Nacional in Lima, the country's capital.
Club Alianza Lima, is a Peruvian professional sports club based in La Victoria District of Lima, Peru. The club was founded under the name of Sport Alianza on 15 February 1901 by working-class youth in the Chacaritas neighborhood of Lima. It is widely known for having one of the most historical and successful football teams in Peru; they have won a total of 21 official league titles of the Peruvian Primera División and are currently the oldest team playing in that competition, since the club was founded in 1901. According to CONMEBOL, it is considered the second most popular club in Peru with more than 12 million fans as of April 2016.
The Savior Town District is an urban, largely residential coastal district on the outskirts of Lima, Peru. It borders the district of Chorrillos on the east; the Pacific Ocean on the southwest; Lurín on the southeast; Villa María del Triunfo on the east and San Juan de Miraflores on the north.
The 1975 edition of the Copa América football tournament was played between 17 July and 28 October. For the first time there was no fixed venue, and all matches were played throughout the year in each country. In addition, the tournament changed its name from South American Championship to Copa América. For the first time, all ten CONMEBOL countries participated, with defending champions Uruguay receiving a bye into the semi-finals and the rest starting in the group stage.
The 2005 Peru Census was a detailed enumeration of the Peruvian population. It was conducted by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática from July 18 through August 20, 2005. Its full name in Spanish is X Censo de Población y V de Vivienda. The previous census performed in Peru was the 1993 Census. The following census was the 2007 Census.
The Peru First Division, officially known as Liga 1, is the top flight of association football in Peru. It has been referred to as Torneo Descentralizado since 1966, when the first teams residing outside the Lima and Callao provinces were invited to compete in the inaugural league national competition.
Santiago Fujimori Inomoto is a Peruvian lawyer, politician and a former congressman, representing Lima for the 2006–2011 term. Fujimori is of Japanese descent. He is the younger brother of former President Alberto Fujimori who was the President of Peru from 1990 until his downfall in 2000 and the uncle of Keiko Fujimori and Kenji Fujimori. During his brother's presidency, he served as an advisor.
José Manuel Velásquez Castillo is a retired Peruvian footballer who played as a midfielder. Nicknamed "El Patrón", he stood out for his elegance, presence, courage and technical play, being recognized as one of the players with the most personality that Peruvian football has given and the best defensive midfielder in the history of his country. He was nominated for the Global Ballon d'Or by FIFA in 1977.
Oswaldo Felipe Ramírez Salcedo is a retired Peruvian football striker. He is one of the highest scoring players in the history of the Copa Libertadores and on the Peru national football team, which won the 1975 Copa América.
Marcos Calderón was a Peruvian football coach and player. During his tenure the Peru national team won the Copa América 1975 and reached the second round of the 1978 World Cup. He was born in Lima in 1928 and died when he was coach to Alianza Lima in a terrible aviation crash that occurred on 8 December 1987 that killed most of the team's promising squad.
Club Atlético Defensor Lima is a Perúvian football club located in the district of Breña, Lima. The club was founded on July 31, 1931.
Centro Iqueño is a Peruvian football club, located in the city of Lima. It was founded on October 12, 1935 and play in the Copa Perú which is the third division of the Peruvian league.
The 1975 season of the Torneo Descentralizado, the top category of Peruvian football, was played by 18 teams. The top six qualified to the final group stage. As the First Division was reduced to 16 teams for 1976, no team was promoted and two teams were relegated. The criteria for relegation: Grau as the last placed team; Unión Tumán as the worst team from a Department (Lambayeque) with two teams. This rule didn't apply for Lima clubs. A playoff match for 2nd place was necessary. The national champions were Alianza Lima.
Peru at the Pan American Games. The Peruvians had participated in all editions of the games, except in 1955 in Mexico City. They have won a total of 19 gold medals, 40 silver and 90 bronze and 149 overall counting the 2019 Panamerican Games in Lima.
The 2019 Pan American Games, officially the XVIII Pan American Games and commonly known as the Peru 2019 Pan-Am Games or Peru 2019, were a multi-sport event governed by the Panam Sports Organization held in Lima, Peru from July 26 to August 11, 2019, with preliminary rounds in certain events having begun on July 24, 2019. These were the first Pan American Games to be held in Peru, and the seventh to be held in South America.
Taushiro, also known as Pinche or Pinchi, is a nearly extinct possible language isolate of the Peruvian Amazon near Ecuador. In 2000 SIL counted one speaker in an ethnic population of 20. Documentation was done in the mid-1970s by Neftalí Alicea. The last living speaker of Taushiro, Amadeo García García, was profiled in The New York Times in 2017.
Indonesia and Peru established diplomatic relations in 1975. Both nations see each other as an attractive market with good prospects and potentials, and seeks to boost trade relations. Indonesia has an embassy in Lima, while Peru has an embassy in Jakarta. Indonesia and Peru are members of multilateral organizations such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, the World Trade Organization (WTO), Non-Aligned Movement and Forum of East Asia-Latin America Cooperation.
The 1975 Copa América final was the final match to determine the Copa América champion. The first leg was held in Estadio El Campín of Bogotá on October 16, the second leg in Estadio Nacional of Lima on October 22, and the playoff match in Estadio Olímpico of Caracas on 28 October.
