The 2007 South American Youth Championship (Sudamericana sub-20) is a football competition contested by all ten U-20 national football teams of CONMEBOL. The tournament was held in Paraguay between 7 January and 28 January 2007. It was the 23rd time the competition has been held and the fourth to take place in Paraguay. Brazil finished undefeated, winning their ninth trophy.

Contents

Format

The teams are separated in two groups of five, and each team plays four matches in a pure round-robin stage. The three top competitors advance to a single final group of six, wherein each team plays five matches. The top four teams in the final group qualify to the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup, while the top two also qualify for the 2008 Olympic tournament (U-23).

1999 Copa América

The 1999 Copa América was a football tournament held in Paraguay, from June 29 to July 18. It was organized by CONMEBOL, South America's football governing body.

The Second Stage of the 2007 Copa Libertadores was a group stage.

The South American zone of 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification saw ten teams competing for places in the finals in South Africa. The format is identical to that used for the previous three World Cup qualification tournaments held by CONMEBOL. Matches were scheduled so that there were always two games within a week, which was aimed at minimizing player travel time, particularly for players who were based in Europe.

The Second Stage of the 2008 Copa Santander Libertadores was a group stage. It was played from February 12 to April 23.

The Second Stage of the 2009 Copa Santander Libertadores was a group stage. It was played from February 10 to April 30.

The South American Zone of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification saw nine teams competing for 4 or 5 berths in the finals. Brazil automatically qualified for the World Cup as the host nation so were not involved in CONMEBOL qualifying. Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay advanced to the World Cup.

The Second Stage of the 2010 Copa Santander Libertadores was a group stage. It was contested from February 9 to April 22.

The second stage of the 2012 Copa Santander Libertadores de América ran from February 7 to April 19, 2012.

The second stage of the 2014 Copa Libertadores de América was played from February 11 to April 10, 2014. A total of 32 teams competed in the second stage.

The Group A of the 1999 Copa América was one of the three groups of competing nations in the 1999 Copa América. It comprised Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, and Japan. Group play began on June 29 and ended on July 5.

The Group B of the 1999 Copa América was one of the three groups of competing nations in the 1999 Copa América. It comprised Brazil, Chile, Venezuela, and Mexico. Group play began on June 30 and ended on July 6.

The 1999 Copa América final stages were the elimination stages of the Copa América, following the group stage. They began on July 10, 1999, and consisted of the quarterfinals, the semifinals, the third-place match, and the final held at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco on July 18, in Asunción. No extra time was played if any match in the final stages finished tied after regulation and tied matched went straight to a penalty shootout.

The South American section of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification acted as qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia, for national teams which are members of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL). A total of 4.5 slots in the final tournament were available for CONMEBOL teams.
