22 February - Harmony are selected to represent Netherlands at the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest with their song "'t Is OK". They are selected to be the twenty-third Dutch Eurovision entry during Nationaal Songfestival held at Congresgebouw in The Hague.

Harmony was a Dutch pop band of the 1970s. The group represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 1978 in Paris. There the band performed the song 't Is OK and ended in the 13th place with 37 points.

The Eurovision Song Contest 1978 was the 23rd edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It was held on 22 April 1978 in Paris. The contest was won by Izhar Cohen & the Alphabeta who represented Israel with the song "A-Ba-Ni-Bi". Although 'A-Ba-Ni-Bi' is the correct title, French television mistakenly captioned on screen the song title as 'Ah-Bah-Nee-Bee'. The presenters were Denise Fabre and Léon Zitrone, and this was the first time more than one presenter hosted an edition of the Contest. In addition, the two presenters served as commentators for France. Twenty countries participated, a record at the time.

"'t Is OK" was the Dutch entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1978, performed in Dutch by the trio Harmony. The song was composed by Eddy Ouwens, who previously had written the Netherlands' winning entry at the 1975 Contest, Teach-In's "Ding-A-Dong". "'t Is OK" charted at #29 in the Dutch singles chart in the same year.

NOS Journaal is the umbrella name for the news broadcasts of the Dutch public broadcaster NOS on radio and television. The division of the NOS responsible for gathering and broadcasting the news is known as NOS Nieuws, and is based at the Media Park in Hilversum; the NOS also has fully equipped radio and television studios in The Hague, from which political programmes are often produced.

Pipo de Clown is a character created by writer and artist Wim Meuldijk, which became famous as the lead character of a popular early Dutch television series also written by Meuldijk, and which was subsequently popularized in movies and on records. The best-known of Pipo-actors was Amsterdam actor Cor Witschge, who played the part in the television series from 1958 to 1968 and from 1974 to 1980. The regular Pipo cast often performed in theaters and for company occasions. Pipo returned to the mainstream in the 2003 movie Pipo en de p-p-Parelridder, and in the 2009-2010 theater season with the musical Pipo en de Gestolen Stem.

The Netherlands revealed that former Eurovision participant, Edsilia Rombley, would fly the Dutch flag in Helsinki. The Dutch entrant was selected internally by NOS, and was announced on 16 December 2006. On 11 February 2007, Edsilia sang three songs, in which she picked "Nooit meer zonder jou" to go to Helsinki. The songs were presented in the television show Mooi! Weer De Leeuw. The candidate songs all came from Edsilia's upcoming album and were all performed in the Dutch language. Even though Edsilia had expressed her wish to sing in the country's native language, she has decided to sing the song in English under the name "On Top of the World."

Belgium were represented in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 by the French-language broadcaster Radio Télévision Belge de la Communauté Française (RTBF), who choose the Belgian entry for the contest through an internal selection. The song did not progress from the first semi-final of the competition, finishing second to last with just one point.

The Netherlands were present at the Eurovision Song Contest 1986, held in Bergen, Norway, after opting out of the previous year's contest in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Netherlands entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 will be organised by TROS. In November a poll conducted by private broadcaster RTL 4 revealed that 86% of those polled would agree to a possible withdraw by the Netherlands due to the poor results received in past contests.

The Netherlands participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden. The Dutch entry was selected through an internal selection, organised by the Dutch broadcaster TROS. Anouk represented the Netherlands with the song "Birds", which qualified from the first semi-final of the competition and placed 9th in the final, scoring 114 points.

"Birds" is a song recorded by Dutch singer Anouk, released as the first single from her eighth studio album Sad Singalong Songs (2013). The song was written by Anouk Teeuwe and composed by Tore Johansson, Martin Gjerstad and Anouk Teeuwe. It is best known as the Netherlands' entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 held in Malmö, Sweden. The song competed in the first semi-final on 14 May 2013 for and managed to qualify for a spot in the final on 18 May 2013, the Netherlands' first qualification in 9 years, where Anouk achieved 9th place in a field of 39; the best result for the Netherlands since the 1999 competition.

Belgium participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Their entry was selected through the national final Eurosong 2014, organised by the Belgian broadcaster Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie (VRT). Axel Hirsoux performed the Belgian entry "Mother" written by Rafael Artesero and Ashley Hicklin. The song failed to qualify from the first semi-final, placing 14th and scoring 28 points.

The song was performed by Douwe Bob, who was internally selected by the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS to represent the Netherlands at the 2016 contest in Stockholm, Sweden. Douwe Bob's appointment as the Dutch representative was announced on 22 September 2015, while the song, "Slow Down", was presented to the public on 4 March 2016.
