<i>Goede tijden, slechte tijden</i> Dutch soap opera

Goede tijden, slechte tijden, also known as GTST or simply Goede tijden, is the longest-running Dutch soap opera, which began on 1 October 1990 on RTL4. The programme was the first daily soap in the Netherlands and Europe. The soap is produced by Joop van den Ende and to date over 6,900 episodes have been broadcast. It was initially based on the Australian soap The Restless Years, however it switched to original scripts during the third season and onwards. GTST is broadcast Monday to Friday at 20:00, and became available on demand via streaming platform Videoland from 2015.

Afro-Dutch or Black Dutch are Dutch people who are of Sub-Saharan African ancestry. The majority of Afro-Dutch in the continental Netherlands hail from the former and present Dutch overseas territories Suriname and the former Netherlands Antilles; now Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius and Saba. Of the approximately 500,000 Afro-Dutch people, about 300,000 people, or 60%, are from these territories. There is also a sizable population of Cape Verdean, Ghanaian, Nigerian, Somali, Angolan and other African communities of more recent immigrants. The majority of Afro-Dutch people migrated to the Netherlands from the 1970s onwards, most of the recent migrants arriving either as political refugees seeking freedom or, more often, to escape regional conflicts, such as from Eritrea.

Nachtrit is a 2006 Netherlands thriller film about the tribulations of an Amsterdam taxi-driver, played by Frank Lammers. The context is a vicious taxi war that was waged between two competing taxi companies in the city around 2000. We follow Dennis's daily life as he struggles to keep himself and his family afloat in an environment of treachery and ruthless savagery. The harder he fights, the deeper he gets into trouble, and the fewer options remain to him.
