1983 Montserratian general election

General elections were held in Montserrat in February 1983. [1] The result was a victory for the People's Liberation Movement (PLM), which won five of the seven seats in the Legislative Council. PLM leader John Osborne remained Chief Minister. [1]

A total of 22 candidates contested the elections; the PLM and the Progressive Democratic Party both nominated seven, the United National Front nominated four, with the other four candidates running as independents, three of which contested the Northern constituency. [2]

Elections in Montserrat take place within the framework of a multi-party democracy and a parliamentary system. The Legislative Assembly is directly elected, and a Chief Minister is selected by the party or coalition with the most seats in the Assembly.

The Legislative Council was the unicameral legislature of Montserrat from 1951 to 2011.

General elections were held in Montserrat on 25 August 1987. The result was a victory for the People's Liberation Movement (PLM), which won four of the seven seats in the Legislative Council. PLM leader John Osborne remained Chief Minister.
