Steve Davis won the tournament, defeating Doug Mountjoy 4–2 in the final. [2]

Anthony Meo, professionally known as Tony Meo is a retired English snooker player. He won the 1989 British Open by defeating Dean Reynolds 13–6 in the final, and was runner-up to Steve Davis at the 1984 Classic. He won four World Doubles Championship titles, partnering Davis, and the 1983 World Team Classic representing England alongside Davis and Tony Knowles.

He has been a runner-up at two Triple Crown events, at the 2008 UK Championship and the 2011 Masters. In addition, Fu has reached the semi-finals of the World Championship twice—in 2006 and in 2016.

Doug Mountjoy was a Welsh snooker player from Tir-y-Berth, Gelligaer, Glamorgan, Wales. He was a mainstay of the professional snooker circuit during the late 1970s and 1980s, and remained within the top 16 of the world rankings for 11 consecutive years. He began his professional snooker career by winning the 1977 Masters, which he had entered as a late replacement. He won the 1978 UK Championship and the 1979 Irish Masters, and reached the final of the 1981 World Snooker Championship where he lost to Steve Davis. He was also runner-up at the 1985 Masters, but by 1988 he had dropped out of the top 16.

Ng On-yee BBS MH is a Hong Kong snooker player who has won three IBSF World Snooker Championships and three World Women's Snooker world championships. She held the number one position in the World Women's Snooker world ranking list from February 2018 to April 2019.

The 2017 Hong Kong Masters was a non-ranking snooker tournament, held from 20 to 23 July 2017 at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. The event is organized by the Hong Kong Billiard Sports Control Council known as HKBSCC, subvented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, managed by appointed event agency Yello Marketing (Yello) and sanctioned by World Snooker Limited.
