The 1987 Greek Super Cup was the 2nd edition of the Greek Super Cup and the 1st that was organized under the HFF, an association football match contested by the winners of the previous season's Alpha Ethniki and Greek Cup competitions. The match took place on 29 August 1987 at the Athens Olympic Stadium. The contesting teams were the 1986–87 Alpha Ethniki champions, Olympiacos and the 1986–87 Greek Cup winners, OFI. This was the first Greek Super Cup held at the Athens Olympic Stadium.

The Athens Olympic Stadium was built in 1982. The stadium is used as a venue for Panathinaikos, Olympiacos and Greece and was used for AEK Athens in various occasions. Its current capacity is 80,000 and hosted a European Cup final in 1983 and a European Cup Winners' Cup final in 1987. [5]

Background

Olympiacos participated in the Greek Super Cup one time in 1980, where they had won Kastoria by 4–3.

OFI had never competed in the Greek Super Cup.

The two teams had never met each other in the Super Cup. [6]

Ethnikos Piraeus F.C. is a Greek football club based in Piraeus and its parent sports club is Ethnikos OFPF. The club was officially formed on 21 November 1923 as KeravnosPiraeus, but existed unofficially since 1922. One year later the club was renamed to Young Boys Titan, after some players' secession that formed Peiraikos Podosfairikos Omilos. It is an annual match contested by the champion of Greek Volleyleague and the winner of Greek Volleyball Cup. The matches take place in different cities every year. The competition isn't held if one team has achieved the double in the previous season. Iraklis Thessaloniki has won the competition 4 times, followed by Olympiacos and Panathinaikos who have won it 2 times. Aris Thessaloniki, Foinikas Syros and PAOK have won the trophy one time each.

Myron Sifakis, the third-choice at the time goalkeeper of OFI emerged as the hero of his team, saving two penalties during the penalty shoot-out.

The 2007 Greek Super Cup was the 9th edition of the Greek Super Cup, an association football match contested by the winners of the previous season's Super League Greece and Greek Cup competitions. The match was held just four days after the cup final and five days after the championship play-off between Olympiacos and Aris.
