The 1988 NAIA Division II football season, as part of the 1988 college football season in the United States and the 33rd season of college football sponsored by the NAIA, was the 19th season of play of the NAIA division II for football.
The season was played from August to November 1988 and culminated in the 1988 NAIA Division II Football National Championship , played at the Memorial Stadium on the campus of Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. [1]
The Westminster Titans defeated the Wisconsin–La Crosse Indians in the championship game, 21–14, to win their fourth NAIA national title.

The black college football national championship is a national championship honor that, since 1920, has been regularly bestowed upon the best football teams among historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) within the United States.
The Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks, commonly known as the IUP Crimson Hawks and formerly called the IUP Indians, are the varsity athletic teams that represent Indiana University of Pennsylvania, which is located in Indiana, Pennsylvania. The university and all of its intercollegiate sports teams compete in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) within the NCAA Division II. The university sponsors 19 different teams, including eight teams for men and eleven teams for women: baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, women's field hockey, football, men's golf, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming, women's tennis, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field, and women's volleyball.

They advanced to the NAIA Division II playoffs, defeating Bluffton (40–7) in the quarterfinal, Evangel (26–9) in the semifinal and Wisconsin–La Crosse (21–14) in the NAIA Division II National Championship Game.

In their fourth season under head coach Gene Nicholson, the Titans compiled a 12–2 record. They advanced to the NAIA Division II playoffs, defeating Tiffin (42–14) in the quarterfinal, Lambuth (46–6) in the semifinal and Pacific Lutheran (27–7) in the NAIA Division II National Championship Game.
