The ISKA is one of the major international bodies regulating sport karate and kickboxing matches, and is based in the United States. It was established in 1985 as a response to legal and revenue issues that sent the Professional Karate Association (PKA) into decline.
The World Karate Federation (WKF) is the largest international governing body of sport karate with 198 member countries. It is the only karate organization recognised by the International Olympic Committee and has more than hundred million members. The WKF organizes the Junior and Senior Karate World Championships, which are each held every other year. The President of the WKF is Antonio Espinós and the headquarters are located in Madrid, Spain. All the styles are officially recognised by the WKF.
The Commonwealth Karate Championships is an event that is organised by the Commonwealth Karate Federation for karateka from the Commonwealth. As well as creating competitive opportunities and crowning Commonwealth champions in the sport, the event aims to demonstrate that competition karate is suitable for inclusion in the Commonwealth Games, having been included in the 2020 Summer Olympics and other multisport events. The karate federations of Commonwealth countries are invited to send their national squads to participate in the elite competition, provided that they are members of the World Karate Federation.
The Karate World Championships, also known as the World Karate Championships, are the highest level of competition for karate organized by the World Karate Federation (WKF). The competition is held in a different city every two years. Championships in the 2000s included Madrid in 2002, Monterrey in 2004, Tampere in 2006, Tokyo in 2008, and Belgrade in 2010. The European Karate Federation (EKF) is the governing body of competitive karate in more than 50 countries across Europe. The EKF's stated goal is to promote, organize, regulate, and popularize the sport of karate. It is one of the five continental federations recognized by the World Karate Federation. Since 1966, it has organized the European Karate Championships. Additionally, it now organizes Junior, Cadet, and Under-21 Championships(European Juniors Karate Championships).
The Asian Karatedo Championships are the highest level of competition for sport karate in Asia. The competition is held in a different country every two years organized by the Asian Karatedo Federation (AKF) under the supervision of World Karate Federation (WKF), the largest international governing body of sport karate with over 180 member countries. It is the only karate organization recognised by the International Olympic Committee and has more than fifty million members. The AKF organizes the Junior and Senior Asian Karatedo Championships in every two years in between the Olympic and Asian Games and participates in WKF World Karate Championships which its member Japan play as a powerhouse country when it comes to sport karate vying for world titles with counterpart opponents from the powerful nations such as France, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Spain and Italy in many world championships.
Serap Özçelik Arapoğlu is a Turkish karateka, who competes in the kumite 50–53 kg divisions. She won a world title in 2014 and a European title in 2011, 2012 and 2014.
The 1982 World Karate Championships are the 6th edition of the World Karate Championships, and were held in Taipei, Taiwan from November 21 to 25 November 1982.
Saeid Ahmadi Karyani is an Iranian karateka and current professional personal trainer. He has participated in three world championships and he won two golds and a silver medal. He also won the silver medal in 2012 and 2014 and 2016 world championships.
Anita Arturivna Serogina is a Ukrainian karateka competing in the kumite 61 kg division and coach. She started karate training at the age of eleven with the coach Tonkoshkur Olexandr.

Sandra Sánchez Jaime is a retired Spanish karateka. She won the gold medal in the women's kata event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She is a two-time gold medalist in the women's individual kata event at the World Karate Championships. She also won the gold medal in this event at the European Karate Championships in seven consecutive competitions. She is also recognised by Guinness World Records for winning the most medals in the Karate1 Premier League; she won 35 consecutive medals between January 2014 and February 2020.
Irina Zaretska is a Ukrainian and Azerbaijani karateka. She won the silver medal in the women's +61 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. She is a two-time gold medalist in the women's 68 kg event at the World Karate Championships and the Islamic Solidarity Games. She also won the gold medal in this event at the 2015 European Games and the 2021 European Karate Championships.
Ivet Goranova is a Bulgarian karateka. She won the gold medal in the women's 55 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She also won the gold medal in the women's 55 kg event at the 2019 European Games held in Minsk, Belarus.
Brian Irr is an American karateka. He won the gold medal in the men's kumite +84 kg event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru. In the final, he defeated Daniel Gaysinsky of Canada.
Alexandra Recchia is a French karateka. She is a two-time gold medalist in the women's kumite 50 kg event at the World Karate Championships and a two-time gold medalist in this event at the European Karate Championships.
