The World Kickboxing Association (WKA) also known as World Kickboxing and Karate Association, is one of the oldest and the largest amateur and professional sanctioning body for kickboxing and Karate.
The Karate World Championships, also known as the World Karate Championships, are the highest level of competition for karate organized by the World Karate Federation (WKF). The competition is held in a different city every two years. Championships in the 2000s included Madrid in 2002, Monterrey in 2004, Tampere in 2006, Tokyo in 2008, and Belgrade in 2010. The competition was initially riddled with controversy regarding karate styles and the ruleset.
Francisco "Chiquinho" Alves Filho is a Brazilian Kyokushin Karateka and kickboxer. He is one of the few karate-ka to have successfully completed the 100 man kumite more than once.
The Asian Karatedo Championships are the highest level of competition for sport karate in Asia. The competition is held in a different country every two years organized by the Asian Karatedo Federation (AKF) under the supervision of World Karate Federation (WKF), the largest international governing body of sport karate with over 180 member countries. It is the only karate organization recognised by the International Olympic Committee and has more than fifty million members. The AKF organizes the Junior and Senior Asian Karatedo Championships in every two years in between the Olympic and Asian Games and participates in WKF World Karate Championships which its member Japan play as a powerhouse country when it comes to sport karate vying for world titles with counterpart opponents from the powerful nations such as France, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Spain and Italy in many world championships.
Sandra Sánchez Jaime is a retired Spanish karateka. She won the gold medal in the women's kata event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She is a two-time gold medalist in the women's individual kata event at the World Karate Championships. She also won the gold medal in this event at the European Karate Championships in seven consecutive competitions. She is also recognised by Guinness World Records for winning the most medals in the Karate1 Premier League; she won 35 consecutive medals between January 2014 and February 2020.
Ryo Kiyuna is a Japanese karateka. He won the gold medal in the men's kata event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He is also a four-time gold medalist in the men's kata event at the World Karate Championships and a two-time gold medalist in the men's team kata event, alongside Arata Kinjo and Takuya Uemura. He has also won multiple gold medals in both the individual and team kata events at the Asian Karate Championships.
Tareg Ali Hamedi is a Saudi Arabian karateka. He represented Saudi Arabia at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He won the silver medal in the men's +75 kg event after being disqualified for knocking out his opponent with an illegal kick. He is a seven-time medalist, including three gold medals, at the Asian Karate Championships. He is also a gold medalist at the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games and a bronze medalist at the 2018 Asian Games.
Prem Kumar Selvam is a Malaysian karateka. He won the gold medal in the men's kumite 55 kg event at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games held in the Philippines. Two years earlier, he won bronze in this event. He is also a bronze medalist at the Asian Games and a two-time bronze medalist at the Asian Karate Championships.
Ahmad Zigi Zaresta Yuda is an Indonesian karateka competing in the men's kata event. He won the gold medal in the men's individual kata event at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games held in Manila, Philippines. He also won the gold medal in the men's individual kata event at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games held in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Cok Istri Agung Sanistyarani is an Indonesian karateka. She won the gold medal in the women's kumite 61 kg event at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She won one of the bronze medals in the women's kumite 55 kg event at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia. She also won multiple medals at both the Islamic Solidarity Games and the Asian Karate Championships.
Ivet Goranova is a Bulgarian karateka. She won the gold medal in the women's 55 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She also won the gold medal in the women's 55 kg event at the 2019 European Games held in Minsk, Belarus.
Grace Lau Mo-sheung is a Hong Kong karateka. She won bronze in the women’s kata event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, becoming the first Hong Kong athlete to win an Olympic medal in karate. She is also a bronze medallist in the women's individual kata event at the World Karate Championships, the Asian Games and the World Beach Games. She is also a five-time medalist at the Asian Karate Championships.
Celine Lee Xin Yi is a Malaysian karateka. She won the gold medal in the women's individual kata event at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Jennifer Warling is a karateka from Luxembourg. She won the gold medal in the women's kumite 55 kg event at the 2019 European Karate Championships held in Guadalajara, Spain. She also won a medal in this event at this competition in 2014 and 2015. She also represented Luxembourg at the 2019 European Games held in Minsk, Belarus and she won one of the bronze medals in the women's kumite 55 kg event.
Alizée Agier is a French karateka. She won the gold medal in the women's kumite 68 kg event at the 2014 World Karate Championships held in Bremen, Germany. She also won the gold medal in this event at the 2019 European Karate Championships held in Guadalajara, Spain.
Giana Mohamed Farouk Lotfy is an Egyptian karateka. She won one of the bronze medals in the women's 61 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. She is a two-time gold medalist in the women's kumite 61 kg event at the World Karate Championships. She is also a gold medalist in her event at the African Games, the Islamic Solidarity Games and the Mediterranean Games.
Patrícia Esparteiro is a Portuguese karateka. She is a two-time bronze medalist in the women's team kata event at the European Karate Championships. She also won bronze in the individual kata event at this competition in 2011.
The Karate India Organisation(KIO) replaced Karate Association of India(KAI) as the national governing body for Karate in India on confirmation from World Karate Federation (WKF) on 15 November 2021.
The 2021 Asian Karate Championships were the 17th edition of the Senior Asian Karate Championship and were held in Almaty, Kazakhstan from 20 to 22, December 2021. The event was held at the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace.
The 2022 Asian Karate Championships were the 18th edition of the Senior Asian Karate Championship and were held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 18 to 20, December 2022. The event was held at the Sport Complex Uzbekistan.
