The 1990 Penrith Panthers season was the 24th in the club's history. Coached by Phil Gould and captained by Royce Simmons, they competed in the New South Wales Rugby League's 1990 Winfield Cup Premiership, finishing 3rd (out of 16). The Panthers were beaten in the Grand Final by the Canberra Raiders.

Fred Hampton American activist

Fredrick Allen Hampton was an American activist and revolutionary socialist. He came to prominence in Chicago as chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party (BPP), and deputy chairman of the national BPP. In this capacity, he founded a prominent multicultural political organization, the Rainbow Coalition that initially included the Black Panthers, Young Patriots and the Young Lords, and an alliance among major Chicago street gangs to help them end infighting, and work for social change.

Gregory Peter Stephen "Greg" Alexander, also known by the nickname of "Brandy", is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s, who has since become a radio, television commentator and noted rugby league journalist. Originally a goal-kicking half-back, in his career he played for and captained the Penrith Panthers and the Auckland Warriors clubs and also represented his country and state on several occasions. Alexander's position for the majority of his career was at half-back, however early in his career – particularly in representative sides – he was moved to fullback. It was this ability to play different positions with great success that saw Alexander make both the 1986 and the 1990 Kangaroo Tours.

The Erie Panthers were a professional hockey team, and one of the founding members in the East Coast Hockey League. Cameron Jerrell Newton is an American football quarterback who is a free agent. He played college football at Florida and Auburn. He was drafted as the first overall pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2011 NFL Draft. He was the 2011 NFL Rookie of the Year, is a three-time Pro Bowler, and was named the NFL MVP in 2015. In his rookie year, Newton broke all-time NFL rookie records for passing and rushing yards. He became the first NFL quarterback to throw for 400 yards in his first game, shattering Peyton Manning's first-game record by 120 yards. He also broke Otto Graham's 61-year-old record for passing yards by any quarterback in an NFL debut. Newton went on to become the first rookie quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards in a season. He also ran for 14 touchdowns, more in a single season than any other quarterback in NFL history, breaking Steve Grogan's 35-year-old record.

A panther is the animal that serves as the official mascot of the University of Pittsburgh and used as a nickname for both athletic teams as well as other organizations and affiliates of the university. 2001 Carolina Panthers season

The 2001 Carolina Panthers season was the franchise's 7th season in the National Football League and the 3rd and final under head coach George Seifert. They tried to improve upon their 7–9 record in 2000, and make it to the playoffs for the second time in franchise history; however, the season was a wreck. Not only were the Panthers unable to improve over their previous season, but they deteriorated even further dropping to 1–15, losing 15 straight after beating the Minnesota Vikings in their opening game of the season. No other team before or since has lost fifteen straight after opening the season with a big win: the only other teams in NFL history to win their opener and lose the remainder of their games are the 1936 Philadelphia Eagles and the 1969 Pittsburgh Steelers, both in the pre-Merger era and before the league expanded to a 16-game schedule in 1978. The only teams to nearly suffer the same fate as the 2001 Panthers include the 2013 Houston Texans, the 2014 Tennessee Titans, and the 2016 San Francisco 49ers, all of whom had won their season openers but finished 2-14 respectively.
