The FIVB World Grand Prix 2005 was the thirteenth edition of the annual women's volleyball tournament, which is the female equivalent of the Men's Volleyball World League. The 2005 edition was played by twelve countries from June 24 to July 18, 2005, with the final round held at the Sendai Gymnasium in Sendai, Japan. Hosts Japan and the top five ranked teams after the preliminary rounds qualified for the last round.

The 2010 FIVB Women's World Championship was the sixteenth edition of the competition. Like the previous tournament, the 2010 edition also was held from 29 October to 14 November 2010 in Japan, though the range of venues and locations was modified slightly. Twenty-four teams participated in the tournament.

The 2013 Vegalta Sendai season was Vegalta Sendai's fourth consecutive season and sixth season overall in J.League Division 1. As a result of their runner-up finish in the 2012 season, the team competed in the 2013 AFC Champions League. Sendai also competed in the 2013 Emperor's Cup and 2013 J.League Cup. The 2020 Gamba Osaka season was Gamba Osaka's 27th season in the J1 League and 33rd overall in the Japanese top flight. It will see them compete in the 18 team J1 League as well as the J.League Cup and Emperor's Cup competitions.
