Summary

The team finished the Serie B season in first place and were thus promoted back up to Serie A.

Following the enforced relegation, President Cecci Gori appointed Claudio Ranieri as the new club head coach, [1] [2] the squad lost Brian Laudrup to AC Milan. [3] However, international stars Argentine Forward Gabriel Batistuta [4] [5] and German Midfielder Stefan Effenberg [6] stayed at the club. Young Goalkeeper Francesco Toldo had his breakthrough season as starter, [7] meanwhile Defender Alberto Malusci, midfielders Massimo Orlando and Stefano Pioli and Forward Anselmo Robbiati were crutial to clinch the first spot.

The Serie B, officially known as Serie BKT for sponsorship reasons, is the second-highest division in the Italian football league system after the Serie A. It has been operating for over ninety years since the 1929–30 season. It had been organized by Lega Calcio until 2010 and the Lega Serie B ever since. Common nicknames for the league are campionato cadetto and cadetteria, since cadetto is the Italian name for junior or cadet.

The 2017–18 Serie C was the fourth season of the unified Serie C division, the third tier of the Italian football league system.

The 2017–18 Coppa Italia, also known as TIM Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 71st edition of the national domestic tournament. As a minimum, the winners of the Coppa Italia earn a place in the 2018–19 Europa League and would begin play in the group stage unless they qualify for a more favourable UEFA placing based on league play. Seventy-eight clubs participated in this season's cup competition.

The 1992–93 season was Ternana Calcio's 68th season in existence and first one back in the Serie B since 1980. They also competed in the Coppa Italia. The season started on 23 August 1992 and ended on 13 June 1993.

During the 1995–96 AC Reggiana competed in Serie B and Coppa Italia.
