The 1996 Football League Trophy Final (known as the Auto Windscreens Shields Trophy for sponsorship reasons) was the 13th final of the domestic football cup competition for teams from the Second and Third Division of the Football League. The match was played at Wembley on 14 April 1996, and was contested by Rotherham United and Shrewsbury Town. Rotherham United won the match 2–1, with Nigel Jemson scoring both goals for the winning team.

The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association. Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent Women's FA Cup has been held since 1970.

It decided the winners of the 2021–22 EFL Trophy, the 38th edition of the competition, a knock-out tournament for the 48 teams in League One and League Two and 16 category one academy sides. Rotherham United beat Sutton United 4–2 after extra time. Sutton led 2–1 going into injury time at the end of the second half before Jordi Osei-Tutu scored a 96th-minute equaliser; Chiedozie Ogbene and Michael Ihiekwe then scored in extra time to give Rotherham their second EFL Trophy title.
