The Singapore Premier League, commonly abbreviated as SPL,, is a men's professional football league sanctioned by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), which represents the sport's highest level in the Singapore football league system.
The 1996 S.League was the 1st season of the S.League, the top professional football league in Singapore.
The 1997 S.League was the 2nd season of the S.League, the top professional football league in Singapore. The format of the league was changed, a single season of home and away matches replacing the split seasons and a playoff model of the 1996 season.
The 1998 S.League was the third season of the S.League, the top professional football league in Singapore. Teams played each other once both home and away, in a 20-match season.
The 1999 S.League was the fourth season of the S.League, the top professional football league in Singapore. Teams played each other once both home and away, in a 22-match season.

The 1997 edition of the Singapore League Cup was a football tournament involving the teams in the S.League. It was renamed the Singapore Cup in 1998. The Singapore League Cup launched in 2007 is a different competition.
