The 1997 Cairns Cyclones season was the second season that the Cairns Cyclones rugby league team competed in the Channel Nine Queensland Cup. The Queensland Cup was the second tier competition under the Brisbane Rugby League. The Cyclones were one of fourteen clubs competing in the eighteen-week-long competition. Three teams had left the competition at the end of the 1996 season, the Bundaberg Grizzlies, Mackay Sea Eagles and the Sunshine Coast Falcons and one team, the Gold Coast Burleigh Bears had joined.
The Cairns Cyclones were a rugby league team that competed in the QRL Queensland Cup competition from 1996 to 2000. The inaugural 1996 team included the Captain/Coach and six first grade players from CDRL's Smithfield-based Ivanhoes Rugby League Club.
Rugby league football is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field. One of the two codes of rugby, it originated in Northern England in 1895 as a split from the Rugby Football Union over the issue of payments to players. The Wynnum-Manly Seagulls are an Australian rugby league football club based at Kougari Oval, which is in the Eastern Brisbane suburb of Manly West. They competed in the Brisbane Rugby League from 1951 to 1997. Since 1996 they have competed in the Queensland Cup. Their jersey is red, green and white. From 1995 to 2005 they were known as the Wynnum Seagulls.
Redcliffe Dolphins are a rugby league team based in the city of Redcliffe in Queensland, Australia. The Redcliffe Dolphins were founded in 1947, accepted into the Brisbane Rugby League premiership in 1960, and since 1996 have played in the Queensland Cup. The Dolphins are one of the greatest survivors of rugby league in Australia, having being the most thriving Brisbane Rugby League team until the admission of NRL team, Brisbane Broncos which caused the decline of the BRL. The Redcliffe Dolphins have won the most Queensland Cup titles out of any other teams with 6 premierships and is considered one of the most successful rugby league clubs in Queensland.

A rugby league team consists of thirteen players on the field, with four substitutes on the bench. Each of the thirteen players is assigned a position, normally with a standardised number, which reflects their role in attack and defence, although players can take up any position at any time.

The North Queensland Young Guns were a rugby league team competing in the Queensland Cup. They acted as a feeder team for the North Queensland Cowboys. The Cowboys had previously entered reserve grade teams in the Australian Rugby League and Super League competitions. However, to prevent a drain on travelling expenses, the Cowboys applied to join the Queensland Cup for the 1998 season. Competing as the Townsville Stingers, the reserve grade team had some initial success before narrowly missing the finals. The team was excluded from the 1999 Queensland Cup season, and the Cowboys decided to enter their teams into the predominantly New South Wales-based First Division for the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Readmitted to the Queensland Cup in 2002, the Young Guns would win the competition in 2005 with a 36-6 win against defending premiers Burleigh Bears in the grand final.

The 1974 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the 67th season of Sydney's professional rugby league football competition, Australia's first. Twelve teams, including six of 1908's foundation clubs and another six from across Sydney, competed for the J. J. Giltinan Shield during the season, which culminated in a grand final match for the WD & HO Wills Cup between the Eastern Suburbs and Canterbury-Bankstown clubs. This season NSWRFL teams also competed for the inaugural Amco Cup.

Noel Morgan is a former Australian rugby league footballer. He first played for the Easts (Brisbane) in Queensland as a junior and then as a senior player in the Brisbane Rugby League, debuting at the age of 19 in 1959 at the end of the season, representing Brisbane on a number of occasions against a touring International side and in the Bulimba Cup against the Toowoomba and Ipswich representative sides. At age 22 at the end of the 1962 BRL season, he was signed by West End Athletic in the Townsville Rugby League Competition for several seasons and later with a Cairns Rugby League club, representing both Townsville and Cairns in the famous Foley Shield, which led to making the North Queensland representative side on a number of occasion playing the Brisbane rep team and playing against touring International sides. He played against England, France and New Zealand touring test sides. His position of choice was usually always at the back at fullback.

2009 was the second competitive season for the Cairns based CRGT Northern Pride Rugby League Football Club. They competed in the QRL state competition, which in 2009 was called the Wizard Queensland Cup. The addition of the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles meant 12 clubs participated, with each club playing 22 matches over 26 weeks. In 2009 the Wizard Queensland Cup introduced a six-team finals series.

2015 is the eighth competitive season for the Cairns based Sea Swift Northern Pride Rugby League Football Club. They played in the QRL state competition, the Intrust Super Cup. 14 clubs competed, with each club playing 23 matches over 25 rounds. In 2015 the Townsville Blackhawks were admitted to the competition.
