Two-time defending champion Roger Federer successfully defended his title, defeating Andy Roddick in a rematch of the previous year's final, 6–2, 7–6(7–2), 6–4 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 2005 Wimbledon Championships. It was Federer's third Wimbledon title and fifth major title overall. Federer defeated Roddick in the final for the second consecutive year, and would defeat him again in the 2009 final as well.

It was his second Wimbledon title and his third major title overall. This tournament marked the beginning of Federer's record streak of 23 consecutive major semifinals and 36 consecutive major quarterfinals.

It was his first Australian Open title and second Major title overall. With the win, Federer gained the world No. 1 ranking for the first time in his career, and would hold the position for a record 237 consecutive weeks.
Gastón Gaudio defeated Guillermo Coria in the final, 0–6, 3–6, 6–4, 6–1, 8–6 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2004 French Open. Gaudio became the first Argentine to win a major since Guillermo Vilas at the 1979 Australian Open. Gaudio came back from two sets to love down, saved two championship points, and broke Coria's serve twice when the latter served for the championship.
Andy Roddick defeated Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–2), 6–3 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2003 US Open. It was his first and only major title. Roddick remains the most recent American to win the US Open men's singles title as well as any major men's singles title. Roddick saved a match point in the semi-finals against David Nalbandian.
Kellen Damico and Nathaniel Schnugg were the defending champions but Schnugg did not compete. Damico partnered with Jonathan Eysseric but lost in the second round to Roman Jebavý and Martin Kližan.

Jason Stoltenberg and Todd Woodbridge successfully defended their title, defeating David Rikl and Tomáš Zdražila in the final, 6–4, 1–6, 7–5 to win the Boys' Doubles tennis title at the 1988 Wimbledon Championships.
