The 1st Army Corps (Azerbaijani : 1-ci Ordu Korpusu), also referred to as the Barda Army Corps, is a regional military formation of the Azerbaijani Land Forces. It is considered to be the most dangerous, strategic post of the Armed Forces. [1] Most of its units are located on the Armenian border with Nagorno-Karabakh. [2] It is currently led by Major General Hikmat Hasanov. It is currently deployed from Barda, which is south of Yevlakh near Ganja. [3]
Raised in on 3 March 1992 the corps descends from the Azerbaijani 701st Motor Rifle Brigade, 708th Motor Rifle Brigade, and the 130th Motor Rifle Brigade. [4] The former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces General Najmaddin Sadikov made a great contribution to the establishment of the military unit, becoming the first commander of the unit. [5] Among the operations it took part in were the Battle of Kalbajar. [6]
During the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the corps took part in clashes in Madagiz. It would later be captured by the Azerbaijani forces on 3 October. [7] [8] On 9 December, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree to award General Hasanov with the Karabakh Order, congratulating the corps at the same time for their work. [9] Deputy corps commander Babak Samidli led part of the corps in the Madagiz offensive, giving an interview to Euronews on 27 October announcing the capture of the Sarsang Reservoir. [10] [11] He was later killed by a mine in a post ceasefire collection of bodies. [12]
The corps HQ is in Barda, Azerbaijan. [13] [14] Among the brigades is the 701st Motorized Rifle Brigade, the first unit in the military. The brigades have artillery, tank, anti-tank, reconnaissance, communication and other subdivisions. The armament of choice are the T-72 tanks, BTR-82A armored personnel carriers, and the BMP-2. The total staff of the brigades are estimated at 3500-4000 people. [15]
The Azerbaijani Land Forces are the land force component of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan has been trying to create professional, well trained, and mobile armed forces. Based on 2013 statistics, the country has about 56,850 ground force troops, with additional paramilitary forces of 15,000. In addition, there are 300,000 former service personnel who have had military service in the last fifteen years.
Najmeddin Huseyn oghlu Sadikov is an Azerbaijani Colonel General who served as the Chief of the General Staff of Azerbaijani Armed Forces and the First Deputy Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan. He was appointed to both positions on 2 November 1993 by President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev. On 28 January 2021 it was announced that he is no longer serving as the chief of staff, and Karim Valiyev took his position on 23 July of that year.
Mais Barkhudarov is an Azerbaijani officer, lieutenant general of Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, who was a participant of 2016 Nagorno-Karabakh clashes and 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. He is the current commander of the 2nd Army Corps of Azerbaijan.
The Nakhchivan Garrison, also referred to as the Nakhchivan Army, formerly known as the 5th Army Corps, is a regional military formation of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. The structures of all service branches and militarized institution in the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic together form the Nakhchivan Garrison. It is currently led by Colonel General Karam Mustafayev.

Yashar Amirkhan oghlu Hasanov, is an Azerbaijani military officer, and colonel of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. He took part in the April 2016 clashes, and the Lachin offensive within the framework of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war.

The Madagiz offensive, also called the Battle of Madagiz, or the Battle of Sugovushan, was a military operation launched by Azerbaijan against the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh and their Armenian allies during the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War. The offensive began on 28 September, when the Azerbaijani forces advanced towards Armenian positions near the abandoned village of Talish. By 3 October, the Azerbaijani forces had seized control of Talish, and the town of Madagiz.

He serves as the commander of the Missile and Artillery forces of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence. Sultanov is a participant of the 2016 Nagorno–Karabakh clashes, and the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war.
Namig Sarafruz oglu Islamzadeh, is an Azerbaijani military officer, major general serving in the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. He serves as a garrison commander in the "N" military unit of the Azerbaijani Air Forces in Kurdamir District. Islamzadeh is a participant of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war.
2020 Baku Victory Parade was held on 10 December, in Azadliq Square, Baku, capital of Azerbaijan. It was held in honor of the Azerbaijani victory during the Second Nagorno-Karabakh war, officially described as the Patriotic War in Azerbaijan. The parade was held with 3,000 military servicemen who distinguished themselves during the war marched alongside military equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles and aircraft, as well as Armenian war trophies, and Turkish soldiers and officers, while navy vessels performed maneuvers in the nearby Bay of Baku, and jets and helicopters flew above the city. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, a key ally of Azerbaijan in the war, also attended the military parade as part of a state visit to Baku.

The 2nd Army Corps, also referred to as the Beylagan Army Corps is a regional military formation of the Azerbaijani Land Forces. It is concentrated against Armenian occupied territories, specifically the Khojavend District, and is also partially deployed on the Azerbaijan–Iran border. It is currently led by Major General Mais Barkhudarov. It is currently deployed from Beylagan. Among their notable servicemen is Eyvaz Huseynov, the head of the Khojavend District Executive Power.
The 4th Army Corps, also referred to as the Baku Army Corps is a regional military formation of the Azerbaijani Land Forces, that covers Absheron Peninsula and the coast, currently deployed from the capital of Baku.
