The 2003 AMF Futsal Men's World Cup was the 8th edition of the AMF Futsal World Cup. It was held in Paraguay from 21 to 29 November 2003. Twenty teams were involved, with the host nation eventually emerging as champions.

Pedro Juan Caballero is a Paraguayan city in the Amambay Department of which it is the capital. Football is by far the most popular sport in Paraguay. Paraguay's national team has played at eight FIFA World Cup competitions and has won two Copa América tournaments. Olimpia Asunción is the country's most successful club in domestic and international competitions. Paraguay's football leagues are divided into four divisions. In 2020, Paraguay's top-tier was ranked 8th in the world by the IFFHS.

The 2007 South American Youth Championship was the 23rd edition of the competition. It was played in Paraguay between 7 and 28 January 2007, and was contested by all ten U-20 national football teams of CONMEBOL. This was the fourth time Paraguay hosted the competition. Brazil finished undefeated and won their ninth title, beating rivals Argentina in the final.

The World Futsal Association (AMF) is the governing body of futsal for both fully and non-independent states or regions, headquartered in Asuncion, Paraguay. It was founded on 25 July 1971 as the International Futsal Federation (FIFUSA) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; on 1 December 2002, the organization was replaced, changed its name to Spanish version Asociación Mundial de Futsal.

The Group A of the 1999 Copa América was one of the three groups of competing nations in the 1999 Copa América. It comprised Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, and Japan. Group play began on June 29 and ended on July 5.

The South American section of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification acted as qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia, for national teams which are members of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL). A total of 4.5 slots in the final tournament were available for CONMEBOL teams.

The 2017 AMF Futsal Women's World Cup, also known as the Mundial AMF Futsal Femenino 2017, was the third edition of the AMF Futsal Women's World Cup. The tournament was held in Balaguer, Catalonia from 19 to 25 November 2017. Twelve national teams from all confederations participated in the tournament including: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Catalonia, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, France, Italy, Paraguay, South Africa, Switzerland and the United States.

The 2022 Copa Paraguay was the fourth edition of the Copa Paraguay, Paraguay's domestic football cup competition organized by the Paraguayan Football Association (APF). The competition began on 10 May and ended on 10 November 2022, with the winners qualifying for the 2023 Copa Sudamericana as well as the 2022 Supercopa Paraguay against the Primera División champions with better record in the aggregate table.
