The Johan Cruyff Shield is a football trophy in the Netherlands named after Dutch footballer Johan Cruyff, also often referred to as the Dutch Super Cup. The winner is decided in one match only, played by the winner of the national football league, Eredivisie, and the winner of the national KNVB Cup. In the event of a team winning both the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup, the Johan Cruyff Shield will be contested between that team and the runner up in the national league.

The twelfth edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield was held on 11 August 2007 between 2006–07 Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven and 2006–07 KNVB Cup winners Ajax. Ajax won the match 1–0.

The eleventh edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield was held on 13 August 2006 between 2005–06 Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven and 2005–06 KNVB Cup winners Ajax. Ajax won the match 3–1.

The tenth edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield was held on 5 August 2005 between the 2004–05 Eredivisie and 2004–05 KNVB Cup winners PSV Eindhoven, and Eredivisie runners-up Ajax. Ajax won the match 2–1.

The thirteenth edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield was held on 23 August 2008 at the Amsterdam Arena. The match, which inaugurated the 2008–09 season in Dutch football, featured the 2007–08 Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven and 2007–08 KNVB Cup winners Feyenoord. PSV won 2–0.

Björn Kuipers is a former Dutch football referee. He has been a FIFA listed referee from 2006 to 2021 and an UEFA Elite group referee from 2009 to 2021. He was assisted during international matches by Sander van Roekel and Erwin Zeinstra. A supermarket owner by occupation, Kuipers has officiated at two World Cups and three European Championship tournaments. It was announced on 29 July 2021 that Kuipers would be retiring from refereeing, officiating his final match between Ajax and PSV on 7 August in the 2021 Johan Cruyff Shield.

The seventh edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield was held on 11 August 2002 between 2001–02 Eredivisie and 2001–02 KNVB Cup winners Ajax, and Eredivisie runners-up PSV Eindhoven. Ajax won the match 3–1.

The first edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield was held on 18 August 1996 at the Amsterdam Arena. Although this was the seventh Dutch Supercup match to be played, it was the first one held under the Johan Cruyff Shield title, with former editions being played under the name Dutch Supercup. This was also the first Supercup game to be held at the Amsterdam Arena. From this year on each Supercup game would be played there, with each KNVB Cup final being played at De Kuip in Rotterdam.

The second edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield was held on 17 August 1997 at the Amsterdam Arena in Amsterdam. It featured the 1996–97 Eredivisie champions, PSV Eindhoven, and the 1996–97 KNVB Cup winners, Roda JC. The 2015 Johan Cruyff Shield was the twentieth edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield, an annual Dutch football match played between the winners of the previous season's Eredivisie and KNVB Cup. The match was contested by FC Groningen, the 2014–15 KNVB Cup winners, and PSV Eindhoven, champions of the 2014–15 Eredivisie. It was held at the Amsterdam Arena on 2 August 2015.
