The fifth season brought another change in the competition structure. Following the idea to make the league as strong as possible the management of the Goodyear league decided to reduce the number of clubs from 16 to 14 again.
14 teams from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro participated in Goodyear League in its fifth season: Union Olimpija, Helios, Pivovarna Laško, Geoplin Slovan, Cibona, Zadar, Zagreb, Široki ERONET, Bosna ASA BH TELECOM, Crvena zvezda, Partizan, Hemofarm, FMP Železnik, Vojvodina Srbijagas.
There were 26 rounds played in the regular part of the season, best eight teams qualified for the Final Eight Tournament which was played in Sarajevo since April 20 until April 23, 2006.
FMP Železnik became the Goodyear League Champion.

The ABA League, renamed to the ABA League First Division in 2017, is the 1st-tier regional men's professional basketball league that originally featured clubs from the former Yugoslavia. Due to sponsorship reasons, the league was also known as the Goodyear League from 2001 to 2006, the NLB League from 2006 to 2011, and as the AdmiralBet ABA League from 2021.
Nebojša Čović is a Serbian businessman, basketball executive, and former politician. He currently serves as the president for Crvena zvezda.
Branko Cvetković is a retired Serbian professional basketball player. He also represented the Serbian national team internationally. He is 2.00 m tall and plays at the shooting guard and small forward positions.
Vladimir "Vlada" Vukoičić is a Serbian basketball coach for the Qingdao Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association.
The 6th season of Liga ABA saw them change their name to the ABA NLB League as their general sponsor changed. Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company ceded their sponsorship rights to the NLB group.
The ABA NLB League 2007–08, the seventh season of the regional Liga ABA, saw a further change in the competition structure. After trying a playoff system the previous year, the league returned to a combination of elimination and a Final Four tournament.
The ABA NLB League 2008–09 season was the 8th season of the Liga ABA. This season saw a return to the competition system in use in 2003–04, when the Final Four Tournament was played at the end of the regular season.
KK FMP, referred to as FMP Meridian for sponsorship reasons, is a Serbian men's professional basketball club based in Belgrade. They are currently competing in the ABA League and the Basketball League of Serbia.
