The 2006 Belgian Supercup was a football match between the winners of the previous season's Belgian First Division and Belgian Cup competitions. It was played and abandoned at halftime on 22 July 2006, due to excessive rain and later replayed from the beginning on 20 December 2006. The match was contested by Cup winners Zulte Waregem, and 2005–06 Belgian First Division champions, Anderlecht. Both matches were played at the ground of the league champions as usual, in this case the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.
Anderlecht won its seventh Supercup title, as it beat Zulte Waregem in the (replayed) match by a score of 3–1 through goals from Ahmed Hassan, Juhász and Siani.

Sportvereniging Zulte Waregem, commonly known as Zulte Waregem or by their nickname Essevee, is a Belgian professional football club based in Waregem, West Flanders. Zulte Waregem plays in the Belgian First Division A. Their highest finish at the highest level was second place in 2012–13. They have won two Belgian Cups. They qualified for the 2006–07 UEFA Cup, losing in the round of 32 to Newcastle United. Also in the seasons 2013–2014 and 2017–2018 they managed to play in the Europa League group stages. On both occasions the club ended 3rd in their group.
The 1989–90 season of the European Cup Winners' Cup was won for the only time by Sampdoria in the final against Anderlecht, 2–0 at Nya Ullevi in Gothenburg, on 9 May 1990. They went on to win 1990–91 Serie A, also being runners-up in the 1991–92 European Cup and in the 1988–89 European Cup Winners' Cup. English clubs were still banned from Europe following the Heysel Stadium disaster, meaning Liverpool missed out on a place, but would have a representative again the following season.

Prior to the game, the clubs agreed to allow more substitutions, leading to Anderlecht making six changes at halftime and seven in total during the game. Anderlecht won the match by three goals to one, winning its fifth Belgian Super Cup, while for Genk it marked the third loss in three years.
