Nippon TV Beleza, is a women's football team which plays in Division 1 of Japan's Nadeshiko League. It was a founding member of the league in 1989 and is the only Japanese women's club to have never been relegated. Its team name, "Beleza", is Portuguese for "beauty".

The Empress's Cup All-Japan Women's Soccer Championship Tournament, or The Empress's Cup, is a Japanese Women's football competition. As an elimination tournament, it can be considered the female counterpart to the men's Emperor's Cup. The name "Empress's Cup" has been used since the 2012 season as the Empress's Cup trophy was founded in that year.
Albirex Niigata is a Japanese J2 League association football club based in Niigata. In 2003, while still playing in the second tier of Japanese football (J2), Albirex attracted the best average crowd in the country of over 30,000. Since promotion to J1 in 2004 they have recorded an average crowd of over 38,000, and in 2005 Albirex were the first ever club in Japan to record an average gate of over 40,000.

Homare Sawa is a former Japanese professional football player. She was captain of the Japan national team that won gold at the 2011 World Cup and led the team to the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. In 2012, she was named the 2011 FIFA Women's World Player of the Year. She previously played for the Atlanta Beat of the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA), Nippon TV Beleza, the Washington Freedom of Women's Professional Soccer (WPS), and INAC Kobe Leonessa in the Nadeshiko League Division 1.
Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies is a women's football club playing in Japan's football league, Nadeshiko League. Its hometown is the city of Saitama in Saitama Prefecture.
INAC Kobe Leonessa is a Japanese football club from Kobe, founded in 2001. INAC stands for International Athletic Club while Leonessa means Lioness in Italian.

The 2017 L.League season was the 29th edition since its establishment. NTV Beleza were the defending champions, having won the Division 1 title in each of the past two seasons. The season began in March 2017 and ended in October 2017. NTV Beleza won the season, making it their 15th Division 1 title.
The 2017 Empress's Cup was the 39th edition of the Japanese women's football national cup. NTV Beleza won its 11th title and sealed its first League-Cup double since the 2008 season after beating Nadeshiko Division 1 newcomer Nojima Stella in the final. Defending champion INAC Leonessa was defeated on penalties in the Round of 32 by the non-L. League team of the Waseda University.
The 2018 L. League season is the 30th edition since its establishment. NTV Beleza are the defending champions, having won the Division 1 title in each of the past three seasons.
