The 2006 Waterford Crystal Cup was the inaugural staging of the Waterford Crystal Cup. The draw for the fixtures took place on 20 December 2005. The cup began on 15 January 2006 and ended on 5 February 2006.

Contents

On 5 February 2006, Limerick won the cup following a 1-19 to 3-10 defeat of Waterford Institute of Technology in the final. This was their first Waterford Crystal Cup title. [1]

Participating teams

The newly launched Waterford Crystal Cup featured five county teams and five third level college teams. The Munster Council run the competition on a similar system to the McGrath Cup.

The 2013 McGrath Cup was a Gaelic football competition played by the teams of Munster GAA. The competition differs from the Munster Senior Football Championship as it also features further education colleges and the winning team does not progress to another tournament at All-Ireland level. The competition was won by Kerry, defeating Tipperary in the final by seven points.

The 2014 Waterford Crystal Cup was the ninth staging of the Waterford Crystal Cup since its establishment in 2006. The competition began on 12 January 2014 and ended on 7 February 2014.

The 2015 Waterford Crystal Cup was the tenth and final staging of the Waterford Crystal Cup. It was replaced by the Munster Senior Hurling League in 2016.
