The 2007 MTV Video Music Brazil was hosted by Daniela Cicarelli and took place at the Credicard Hall. In 2007, the awards have faced a major rebranding, with several categories extinguished (most notably the specific genre divisions), and the awards in general no longer awarded the best videos (with the exception of the Video of the Year category); instead, the awards were generally focused on the artists, similarly to the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Pato Fu is a Brazilian indie rock band from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. The band was formed by lead singer & rhythm guitarist Fernanda Takai, lead guitarist John Ulhoa and bassist Ricardo Koctus, in September 1992. Long-time drummer Xande Tamietti left the band in 2014, being replaced by Glauco Nastácia; keyboardist Richard Neves replaced Lulu Camargo in 2016. The band is also famous for their 2010 album Música de Brinquedo, which was written using only toy instruments. It was at one point included with U2 and Radiohead in a list of the 10 best bands in the world, according to Time magazine.

The group was popular with disadvantaged youth because of their relatable commentary about social issues and the frequent use of skate punk and hip hop slang in their songs. Rockgol was a television show from MTV Brasil, a football championship disputed by musicians. The show ran from 1995 to 2008, and later from 2011 to 2013, until the end of MTV Brasil. The matches were most famously "narrated" by comedians Paulo Bonfá and Marco Bianchi, with sarcastic and sometime off-game comments, and putting nicknames on most musicians.

The 2009 MTV Video Music Brazil was hosted by Marcelo Adnet and took place at the Credicard Hall. It awarded the best in Brazilian music, popular culture and internet culture in the year of 2009. Despite being a Brazilian awards show, the 2009 VMB included live performances by American rapper Ja Rule and Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand, who were also nominated in the Best International Act category. The 2009 VMB had over 20 categories, the largest number in the history of the show; therefore, part of the awards were delivered in a special show named "VMB Antes", presented some hours before the main event, including small performances by the 2009 VMB Dream Band winners and winners in other categories.

One of the most notable moments was British indie rock band Bloc Party's performance, during which the audience booed the band after noticing they were lip-synching and mimicking to a pre-recorded track instead of singing and playing live. 2008 VMB also had American singer Ben Harper opening the ceremony performing alone, before being joined by Brazilian singer Vanessa da Mata for a second performance.

It was the only edition of the awards where the presenters of the main categories performed a song or a medley of songs related to the category presented before introducing the nominees and announcing the winners. In 2005, the Viewer's Choice and Video of the Year categories were combined into a single category; before 2005, the Video of the Year award was chosen by a jury of experts, while most of the categories were decided by the viewers.

The most notable moments in the show were the 5 awards received by pop band Restart, including for Best New Act and Act of the Year, this last sounded by boos from the audience. There was also a live performance by American alternative rock band OK Go, the appearance of electropop duo 3OH!3, Mexican singer Christian Chávez and Paraguayan model Larissa Riquelme, among many Brazilian personalities.
