In a repeat of the previous year's final, Roger Federer successfully defended his title for a fifth consecutive year by defeating Rafael Nadal in the final, 7–6(9–7), 4–6, 7–6(7–3), 2–6, 6–2 to win the Gentlemen's Singles tennis title at the 2007 Wimbledon Championships. With this win Federer equalled Björn Borg's Open Era record of five consecutive Wimbledon titles.

It was Federer's 13th Grand Slam title and his only successful title defense in majors that year, after losing the French Open and Wimbledon titles, now moved to second place on the all time men's singles Grand Slam wins list, passing Roy Emerson. This was Federer's last US Open title.

Federer completed the career Grand Slam, and equaled Pete Sampras' then-record of 14 Grand Slam titles. This was Federer's fourth consecutive French Open final, having lost the previous three to Nadal.
In a repeat of the 2004 and 2005 finals, Roger Federer defeated Andy Roddick in the final, 5–7, 7–6(8–6), 7–6(7–5), 3–6, 16–14 to win the Gentlemen's Singles tennis title at the 2009 Wimbledon Championships for the sixth time. It became the longest men's singles final in Grand Slam tournament history with 77 games, breaking the record of 71 games set at the 1927 Australian Open. The match also had the longest fifth set (16–14) in a major men's singles final, surpassing the 11–9 fifth set in the 1927 French Open final. The match took 4 hours and 17 minutes to complete, and the fifth set alone lasted 95 minutes. By winning his 15th major, Roger Federer surpassed Pete Sampras' record of 14 major titles. This was Federer's 11th Grass Court Title, surpassing the previous record held by Sampras (10). In a rare occurrence, Roddick lost despite only having his serve broken once, in the very last game of the match. By winning the title, Federer regained the ATP no. 1 singles ranking from Rafael Nadal for the first time since August 2008.

Novak Djokovic was the defending champion, and successfully defended his title by defeating Andy Murray 6–1, 7–6(7–4) in the final. It was Djokovic's third Sony Ericsson Open title.
