The winner of this league was promoted to renamed Championship (formerly National League 1). There is no relegation from this league as it is the lowest tier of professional rugby league in the UK.

Rugby football is the collective name for the team sports of rugby union and rugby league.

The Rugby Football League Championship Second Division was founded in 1902 and was the second tier of professional rugby league in the UK until 2003.

Japan Rugby League One is a rugby union competition in Japan. It is the highest level of professional rugby competition in the country. The England national team compete annually in the Six Nations Championship, and are former world champions after winning the 2003 Rugby World Cup. The top domestic men's club competition is Premiership Rugby, and English clubs also compete in international competitions such as the European Rugby Champions Cup. The top domestic women's competition is the Premier 15s.

Sport in Plymouth, Devon, England, dates back to the 19th century with its first club, Plymouth United F.C., being founded in 1886. It is the largest city in England never to have had a football team in the first tier of English football. It is home to Plymouth Argyle Football Club, who play in the Football League One at the Home Park stadium in Central Park. It is Plymouth's only professional football team, however the city used to have another team called Plymouth United F.C. dating back to 1886. The club takes its nickname from the group of English non-conformists that left Plymouth for the New World in 1620: the club crest features the Mayflower, which carried the Pilgrims to Massachusetts and the club's mascot is named Pilgrim Pete.

Rugby league in Queensland is the most watched winter sport in the state and the second most participated football code after soccer. Rugby league was introduced in 1908 and within just a few years it surpassed rugby union there to become the most popular football code as players switched to play professionally in the Queensland Rugby League. In the 1920s, Queenslanders began leaving to play professionally in the New South Wales Rugby League which became a more popular competition. However Queensland maintained a strong rugby league culture, with the state continuing to perform well in interstate rugby league. The later advent of the State of Origin series ensured that players would return to represent their state.

The winner of this league, along with the play-off winners will be promoted to the 2012 Rugby Football League Championship. Sutherland Oval is a sporting ground, situated in Sutherland, New South Wales. It has been used for professional Rugby League matches, as well as for lower tiered Soccer and Rugby Union matches over the years.

The Top Challenge League was a professional rugby union competition in Japan. It was the second-highest level of rugby competition in the country and is a companies league; all the teams are owned by major companies and the players are generally employees of their company. The Japan Rugby Football Union created the Top League Challenge Series in 2003 in order to give teams playing in the second-tier regional leagues a pathway to progress to the top tier Top League; this became the Top Challenge League in 2017 when a second-tier league was introduced. The competition was disbanded following the creation of the fully-professional Japan Rugby League One ahead of 2022, with the Top League and Top Challenge League being absorbed together to form one three division tournament.

London Welsh Amateur Rugby Football Club, previously known as London Welsh Druids and as of 2017 London Welsh, is an English amateur rugby union club based at Old Deer Park in Richmond, London. They were the amateur team of London Welsh until the professional team's liquidation in 2017. The amateur team continued independently as they were considered a separate club by the Rugby Football Union. For season 2021–22 they played in London 1 South - a league at tier 6 of the English rugby union system - following the club's promotion as champions of London 2 North West at the end of the 2019–20 season. Following completion of 'Project Reset' with 4 promotions in 4 seasons after the professional sides' liquidation, LWRFC play in the 5th Tier Regional 1 South Central league from the 2022-23 season
