Andy Roddick defeated Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–2), 6–3 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2003 US Open. It was his first and only major title. Roddick remains the most recent American to win any major men's singles title. Roddick saved a match point en route to the title, in the semifinals against David Nalbandian. He also completed the "Summer Slam," having won Masters titles in Canada and Cincinnati leading up to the US Open.

Juan Martín del Potro defeated the five-time defending champion Roger Federer in the final, 3–6, 7–6(7–5), 4–6, 7–6(7–4), 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2009 US Open. He became the first Argentine man to win the title since Guillermo Vilas in 1977, and the first to win a major since Gastón Gaudio in the 2004 French Open. This was del Potro's only major title, although he would reach a second final in 2018. This was also the first US Open final since 1999 to go to five sets.

It was his ninth major title, and he completed the career Golden Slam with the win. Nadal became the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open in the same calendar year, as well as the first man in history to win the Surface Slam. He lost only one set during the tournament, to Djokovic in the final.

With the win, Djokovic completed the Sunshine Double, having also won Indian Wells the week before. Djokovic's unbeaten streak to the start of the 2011 season was extended to 24–0, and an overall winning streak of 26 matches.

Federer thus equalled both William Renshaw and Pete Sampras' all-time record of seven Wimbledon titles, as well as Sampras' record of 286 weeks as world No. 1. Novak Djokovic was the defending champion, but lost in the semifinals to Federer.

Federer would repeat this accomplishment at the 2015 event. It was Djokovic's fourth runner-up finish at the tournament.

It was Čilić's 19th career ATP Tour singles title, his first in three years, and he did not drop a set en route to the victory. The No. 47-ranked, 32-year-old Čilić also became the lowest-ranked winner since Juan Carlos Ferrero in 2011 and the third-oldest champion in tournament history. Defending finalist Auger-Aliassime was contesting for his first career singles title in his eighth final.

Hubert Hurkacz and John Isner defeated Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski in the final, 7–6(7–5), 6–4 to win the men's doubles title at the 2022 Miami Open. Isner completed the Sunshine Double, having won the title at Indian Wells alongside Jack Sock. He became the first player to achieve the Sunshine Double in men's doubles since Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in 2016.
