The 2008 San Diego State Aztecs football team represented San Diego State University in the 2008 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were coached by Chuck Long and played their home games at Qualcomm Stadium. The 2008 season was expected to be rough for the Aztecs after losing several key offensive players to the National Football League (NFL). The team looked to redshirt freshman quarterback Ryan Lindley to replace star quarterback Kevin O'Connell. The team also lost two of its leading wide receivers in Brett Swain and Chaz Schilens along with four starting offensive linemen.

Following his stint as head coach for the San Diego State Aztecs, Scovil worked as the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL), where he was credited with developing Randall Cunningham, until his death from a heart attack at Veterans Stadium during the 1989 season. In memory of Scovil's passing, the Eagles marked their helmets with black electrical tape for the rest of the season.

The 2007 BYU Cougars football team represented Brigham Young University (BYU) in the 2007 NCAA Division I FBS football season. BYU clinched its second consecutive Mountain West Conference (MWC) championship title outright after defeating Utah on November 24. It was BYU's second consecutive, undefeated season in the MWC, its fourth MWC championship since the league began in 1999, and its 23rd conference title. Kevin William O'Connell, nicknamed "KOC", is an American football coach and former player who is the head coach for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). O'Connell played quarterback at San Diego State University, and was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft. O'Connell also played for the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and San Diego Chargers before retiring in 2012. O'Connell's NFL coaching career began in 2015; he held various assistant coaching roles on the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, and Los Angeles Rams.

The 2009 UNLV Rebels football team was the 42nd varsity football team to represent the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The Rebels play in the Mountain West Conference and compete each season against the remaining eight members of the conference and one permanent interstate rival: Nevada. The 2018 Boise State Broncos football team represented Boise State University during the 2018 NCAA Division I FBS football season. This season was the Broncos' 82nd season overall, fifth under head coach Bryan Harsin, eighth as a member of the Mountain West Conference and sixth within the Mountain Division. The Broncos played their home games at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho. They finished the season 10–3, 7–1 in Mountain West play to finish in a tie for first place in the Mountain Division with Utah State. Due to their head-to-head win over Utah State, they were champions of the Mountain Division. They represented the Mountain Division in the Mountain West Championship Game where they lost to West Division champion Fresno State. They were invited to the First Responder Bowl against Boston College. With 5:08 left in the 1st quarter, the bowl game was delayed and ultimately canceled and ruled a no contest.

The 2019 Mountain West Conference football season, part of that year's NCAA Division I FBS football season, is the 21st season of College Football for the Mountain West Conference (MW) since 2012. 12 teams have competed in the MW-football conference. The season began on August 24, 2019, and will end on November 30. The entire schedule was released on February 4, 2019.

The 2019 San Diego State Aztecs football team represented San Diego State University in the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Aztecs were led by ninth year head coach Rocky Long and played their final home games at SDCCU Stadium. San Diego State competed as a member of the Mountain West Conference in the West Division.

William Anthony Dunkle is an American football offensive guard who is a free agent. He played college football at San Diego State and was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
