The 2009 K3 League, also known as Daum K3 League 2009, was the third season of the amateur K3 League. [2] All clubs played home and away season, and the playoffs were not held in this year. Before the start of the season, Changwon United and Seoul Pabal withdrew from the league, but Cheongju Jikji, Icheon Citizen and Seoul FC Martyrs joined the league.

FC Seoul is a South Korean professional football club based in Seoul that competes in the K League 1, the top flight of South Korean football. The club is owned by GS Sports, a subsidiary of GS Group. They play their home games at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Daegu FC is a South Korean professional football club based in Daegu. The club was founded as a community club at the end of 2002, and made their K League 1 debut in 2003. Daegu has played mostly in the K League 1 but was relegated at the end of the 2013 season to the K League 2. They were promoted back to the top tier for the 2017 season and went on to win the Korean FA Cup in 2018, which qualified them for the 2019 AFC Champions League. The club's best season in K League 1 was in 2021, when they finished third out of twelve teams. The same year, they were also runners-up of the Korean FA Cup and made it to the Round of 16 in the 2021 AFC Champions League.

Each team played 26 matches against every other teams under the home and away system. After the regular league was finished, the top six clubs qualified for the championship playoffs to determine champions.

The R League, also known as the Korean Professional Football Reserve League, is the league for reserve teams of professional association football clubs in South Korea. The league started in 1990 with five reserve teams of K League member clubs: POSCO Atoms, Yukong Elephants, Daewoo Royals, Hyundai Horang-i and Lucky-Goldstar Hwangso. Pohang Steelworks won the inaugural title, finishing two point ahead of Yukong Elephants to lift the crown. But league was shortlived for only one year and reserve teams participated in semi-professional tournaments such as the National Football Championship.
The 2010 K3 League was the fourth season of amateur K3 League. The participating clubs were divided into two groups, and the winners and runners-up of both groups qualified for the championship playoffs. All clubs had interleague play once after playing home and away season in each group. Jeonju Ongoeul withdrew from the league, but Chuncheon FC and Yeonggwang FC joined the league.

In the 2020 season, 16 teams are going to compete in the K3 League, and they are 8 teams from KNL, 6 teams from K3 League Advanced, and 2 teams from K3 League Basic. The teams for the 2020 season were announced by the Korea Football Association on 19 December 2019.
