The 2012 Challengers League was the sixth season of amateur K3 League.

The Challengers League maintained home and away season of two groups and a one-time interleague play. The winners and runners-up of both groups qualified for the championship playoffs like before. On the basis of the overall standings, however, third and fourth-placed club entered the first round, and second and first-placed club directly advanced to the semi-final and final respectively.

18 clubs participated in this season after Jungnang Chorus Mustang and Paju Citizen joined the league. Asan Citizen moved its city to Yesan before the start of the season, and changed its name to Yesan Citizen.

The K3 League was a South Korean amateur football league held annually from 2007 to 2019. It was considered the third-highest division of the South Korean football league system before the K League 2 was launched in 2013, and the fourth-highest division since then. In 2017, it was divided into K3 League Advanced and fifth-tier league K3 League Basic, and introduced a system of promotion and relegation. In 2020, it was reborn as a semi-professional league after merging with the Korea National League.

The 2010 K3 League was the fourth season of amateur K3 League. The 2011 Korea National League was the ninth season of the Korea National League. The number of post-season playoffs' teams were increased to six and the playoffs were operated in the same format as the K League Championship. Before the start of the 2011 season, Yesan FC withdrew from the league due to its financial difficulty.

The 2011 Challengers League was the fifth season of amateur K3 League. In this season, the K3 League was renamed the "Challengers League", and 16 clubs participated after Samcheok Shinwoo Electronics and Yongin Citizen withdrew from the league. The 2016 Korean FA Cup, known as 2016 KEB Hana Bank FA Cup, was the 21st edition of the Korean FA Cup. Suwon Samsung Bluewings won their fourth FA Cup title after defeating defending champions FC Seoul in the final, and qualified for the 2017 AFC Champions League.

The 2022 K4 League is the third season of the K4 League as a semi-professional league and the fourth tier of South Korean football league system. Pocheon Citizen are the defending champions and was promoted together with Siheung Citizen and Dangjin Citizen to 2022 K3 League. Pyeongtaek Citizen were relegated from 2021 K3 League and will play in the K4 League for the first time.

The 2023 Korean FA Cup, known as 2023 Hana Bank FA Cup due to sponsorship agreement with Hana Bank, is the 28th edition of the Korean FA Cup. Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors are the defending champions, and automatically qualified to this FA Cup edition, alongside all the professional clubs in South Korea. The 2023 FA Cup winners will qualify to the 2024–25 AFC Champions League.
