The 2012 Peace Cup Suwon was an invitational friendly football tournament. It was the fifth competition of the Peace Cup, and was held in South Korea's Suwon World Cup Stadium from 19 to 22 July. Unification Church, the host of the tournament, invited three European clubs, each of which had a South Korean player, in addition to its club Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma. Three invited clubs Groningen, Hamburger SV and Sunderland were having Suk Hyun-jun, Son Heung-min and Ji Dong-won, respectively.

Seongnam FC is a South Korean professional football club based in Seongnam that competes in the K League 2, the second tier of South Korean football. Founded in 1989 as Ilhwa Chunma Football Club, the club has won seven national league titles, three FA Cups, three League Cups, and two AFC Champions League titles. Seongnam also placed fifth in the IFFHS Asian Clubs of the 20th century.
The Peace Cup was an invitational pre-season friendly football tournament for club teams which was held every two years by the Sunmoon Peace Football Foundation. It was usually contested by eight clubs from several continents, though 12 teams participated in 2009. The first three competitions were held in South Korea, and the 2009 Peace Cup was held in Madrid and Andalusia, Spain. Previous winners are PSV, Tottenham Hotspur, Lyon, Aston Villa, and Hamburger SV, who were the final champions.
